Poll question: How did you react to the Lewinsky scandal

1. You don't have the option of:
Clinton's private life is none of my business, and I was APPALLED that we impeached a president over this!
(how much was it? $70 million?)

3. By the time Lewinsky came about I was tired of ...
the repukes. Plus, I knew Clinton lied when he said he did not have sex with that woman. I said to the TV, Bill you need to stop lyin.' :wow:

4. Typical Repub dirty trick
It just demonstrated how desperate they were to attack Clinton. And, as Scott McClellan would say, it's sad they had to stoop so low.

"You DUMBASS! You KNEW the farking Republicans were after your ass, and you had to make it EASY for them!"

Then I got over it...sort of. I quit the GOP and started hanging out with you guys. You guys are waaaaaaaaay cooler, BTW.

17. Peace?
Few American soldiers were killed, but there certainly wasn't peace. The Empire is always pursuing wars of proxy at the very least.

21. Yes he did...
... but as the most powerful man in the world, couldn't he have set his standards a little higher?

If power is the ultimate aphrodisiac, why on earth would he settle for someone like her?

I was disappointed he set his standards so low.

Kennedy was his idol. Kennedy had Marilyn - and Clinton had Monica?

blechh....

He most certainly deserved a good hummer - hell, I'd have paid for it since he made me so much money in the booming economy.

8. I've never discussed this on DU before...
but I was disappointed that Bill C gave them such an easy issue to crucify him with.

I mean, if it were a money scandal, or a pardon thing, or something 100% political it wouldn't have carried nearly as well.

But a good juicy sex scandal ALWAYS gets attention.

So I guess I'm disappointed that he couldn't keep his pants on until he left office.

9. I thought Clinton was stupid for doing it in his office
Clinton is a very smart man who made very stupid personal decisions. If you're the President and can't keep it in your pants for 4 or 8 years, then at least have the clarity to not have an affair in the oval office! Stupid.

He already caught heat from Flowers and who ever that other woman was that sued for sexual harrassement and he couldn't figure out that if anyone found out about Monica that the pubs would attempt to skewer him on that as well???

Granted the pubs went waaaay too far and it should have never gotten as far as it did, but to think that Clinton didn't make a few stupid decisions that helped create the whole mess is ridiculous.

11. Agreed -- My opinion from the start
The only shock I had was that a guy that smart would do something so foolish.

Beyond that, the whole "scandal" and impeachment part was an absurd, stupid, exercise in idiocy.

15. It was a dumb thing to do...
... but the blowback from the Repugs overreaction has not yet subsided. They are going to find that *nothing* is off limits now, and they really can't complain, it was they who set the precedent!

19. I was upset for a minute that Clinton took such a risk
knowing who was out for his blood. I can't say I wasn't upset about that. That's different from being upset with Clinton for having sex and seeming to lie about it. That I never cared about. But it was obvious that the right was gunning to get Clinton, and I was upset that his actions gave them an opening.

to get around to fucking up the economy.

Monica Lewinsky deserves some credit for the roaring 90s

22. I was very upset ...
at the republicans for making it an issue, period. By the time the Monica story broke I'd been listening to them try and hang Clinton for what? 5 years? I was SICK of it. By the time Monica happened I don't think I would have given a shit if he'd actually done something BAD - I was sick of the republicans, and I was sick of the republicans politics of personal destruction.

In fact, I think there would have been more general public outrage over the Monica thing if the GOP hadn't burned everyone out with their Clinton witchhunt over the years. I don't remember much of anyone giving a shit about Monica - which is why I was so suprised with the hatred that came out regarding him during the 2000 election. Republicans were controlling the debate again, I guess.

Unlike some other people on this board I really DID believe Clinton when he said he did not have "relations" with Monica. I believed him heart and soul - but I still wasn't upset with him when I found out he'd lied. I was upset with the republicans putting him in that position - did I mention I was SICK of those bastards?

Hell, I wouldn't even care if GW had an affair and lied about it - except for the fact that he and his cronies would be hypocritical bastards of the worst degree and change their own rules in the middle of the game. THAT would drive me crazy.

23. no one is entitled to ask me about my sex life but my wife
Clinton never should have answered anything about it. He should have just said "that's nobody's business".

Republicans are sex-crazed. They proved it by posting the lurid details of the Star report immediately on the website.

These are the same people who are so "offended" by Janet Jackson's tit?

They are in need of serious psychological counseling.
