Help me recruit a Republican!!!
He's 13 and in my class. He's only a Republican because 1) they lower his taxes (he's in the top 1-2% of income earners) and 2) his dad is one. Give me info showing it doesn't actually lower his taxes!!! HELP!!!

1. This article should help.

It's a myth that Republicans are more careful with taxpayer's money.

Good luck!

4. "Recruit" is a good word!
You're both young now--by the end of a 2nd Bush term, you'll both be old enough for the military.

How does he feel about joining up? Bush has promised an endless string of wars (he's the "war president").

How does he feel about the draft?

5. Well, I dunno 'bout that...
But he's extremely athletic and fast (probably fastest and around 5th most athletic in our school). He's pretty smart, but he might join the army at some point anyway.

But, that is a very good point. I'll ask him!!!

6. Send him to Conservatives Against Bush.com AND
to Military Families Speak Out - those two sites are VERY illuminating. Next time one of my son's "Freeper" friends (LOVES the free republic, LOVES Ann Coulter !!!!, LOVES Laura Ingraham, VERY distressing indeed, and he's only 12), that's what I intend to do.

7. A thirteen year old in the top 1% of income earners?
Edited on Wed Feb-11-04 06:02 PM by Bandit
Ya right. So this thirteen year old kid makes five hundred thousand dollars a year or more. What does he do? If he truely is what you say and money is all that's important to him then give it up. Why bother? Tell him "We Are At War" and people need to sacrifice and those that are most able need to sacrifice the most. It is his Republican Patriotic Duty to support his country with financial aid.

8. Do you go to public school?
If so, tell him that the school would be better off if Bush would fund education instead of giving tax cuts to those who don't need them. If this doesn't work tell him that he will be paying all of that money in tax cuts back in college tuition money because Bush's tax system has fucked over state budgets and in turn has fucked over higher education.

10. Yes, but...
It's a really good school system (e.g. one of the best in NH). Londonderry. But the second idea will certainly work. Thanx yall!

11. Hate to say it, but that won't help.
The one-percenters really did get over big time under Bush. That fact cannot be refuted.

I would take another tack entirely and point out the negative effect Bush's fiscal mismanagement has on the community. I'm sure you can find numerous examples.

I would then ask him what he'd do if he were drafted after high school. We're talking five years from now, right? What if we're still in Iraq, and President-elect Cheney (God forbid!) needs more cannon-fodder? Also remind him that officers aren't bullet-proof.

12. ask him
if he thinks that going to Iraq and losing a leg or an arm is worth it. Ask him why the only people going there are either young kids who couldnt find work and joined out of despair or minorities. Ask him why you dont see any names ending with Bush, DeLay or Rove.
