Does anyone agree...?
This might sound petty and boorish but i believe that the UN should tell Bush to piss off and wallow in his own mess. He called them irrelevant, insulted every leader and country in the world who didnt agree with him and generally behaved like a spoiled wanna be John Wayne.
Let him grovel now in the bed he made and perhaps there is a slight remote chance this type of thing will never happen again, at least not in this country.

1. the UN has no other choice
If they give Jr. a free pass that means that other nations are going to do it too and also expect that free pass.

2. Nah... They only have to put up with him for another 8 months
President "Insert Dem name here" will have much better relations with them in less than a year.

3. What about the Iraqi people??
Are the Iraqi people supposed to "wallow" also?

This is the sort of situation the UN can help, and they will of course help - no doubt about it.

7. It's not like the UN has ever helped them in the first place
The 12 year old economic sanction did a lot of damage.

4. No, because embarrassing Bush is not worth that cost
to the people of Iraq. If the UN gets into the game there's some hope of an even-handed (although still negative sum) solution to the mess Bush's policies have imposed on them.

As much as I'd like Bush to get the full consequences of his bad choices I don't think the Iraqi's should have to pay for it.

5. Kofi Annan missed his chance back in March
With the U.S. invasion imminent, he ordered the weapons indpectors out of Iraq for their own safety.

What if he hadn't?

What if he stated (quire correctly) that the inspectors were in Iraq pursuant to Security Council Resolution 1441, and that a vote by the Security Council would be required to order them out of the country?

Would Bush have invaded even if it meant killing UN inspectors?

6. Disagree
About what the UN should do that is.

I agree that "He called them irrelevant, insulted every leader and country in the world who didnt agree with him and generally behaved like a spoiled wanna be John Wayne"

BUT

If the UN were to take the action you suggest it would really be a form of collective punishment I think. From my own interactions and discussions (trying not to speak for anyone I haven't discussed it with personally) I find that most people are quite good at making a distinction between citizens of the US and the administration, but by making bush "wallow in his own mess" would be making the citizens of the US wallow in it with him. Actually, he probably wouldn't be wallowing in it at all because he'll be standing on top of the wallowers, if you know what I mean.

The UN should help the US out of the mess on condition that the details of said mess are independantly investigated and spelled out for all to see. Sure it wouldn't see Bush* punished like I'd like to see, but I'd rather he simply disappear than to collectively punish the regular folk for the actions of the BFEE/PNAC wankers.
