ROTF. Bush/RNC solicits Joe Wilson for campaign donation.

Read His Lips: No, No and No!
By Richard Leiby

Despite a reelection war chest of $105 million, the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign is sounding the alarm, calling on loyal contributors to dig deep for $12 million more to help get " President Bush's compassionate conservative message past the Liberal media filter," it says in a mailing this month.
"Mr. Wilson, your support now is critical," writes Vice President Cheney. "Mr. Wilson . . . a group of wealthy liberals plans to accumulate $500 million to defeat President Bush and me."

But former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV is probably the last person in America the Bushies should try to hit up. He's the uranium-in-Africa debunker, Iraq war foe and fierce administration critic married to CIA operative Valerie Plame -- the leaking of whose name is the subject of a federal grand jury investigation. He is supporting Democrat John Kerry for president. Wilson, an admirer of President George H.W. Bush, had given $1,000 to his son's campaign in 1999, so he remains on the current president's thank-you list.

Wilson recently received a picture of George and Laura Bush and, he says, a personal call from the Republican National Committee. "The RNC called me at dinner like a telemarketer," Wilson says. "He started in with: 'I want to thank you for all you've done.'

"Do you know who I am?" Wilson asked the solicitor, who confessed ignorance.
"Just tell Ed Gillespie you called Joe Wilson," he said, referring to the RNC chairman. "And put me down for a no."

6. No kidding
I'd love to see the Kerry (or whover comes out ahead) campaign issue the following challenge: "Our campaign will contribute 10% of campaign contributions to reducing the national debt - we challenge the GOP to do the same". (I wonder if this would be legal?)

3. Didn't they carry on, at length, about a 200 million dollar warchest?
Didn't they huff and puff about this huge amount of money they were gonna have?

Are we coming up a little short?

That's intriguing. Yes, 105 million. But that's just slightly over half of what they said they'd be able to amass. What does THAT tell you? And I recently heard 150 million as what they either had or expected to have.

And they've had to start dipping into it sooner than they expected. HIGHLY intriguing.

5. Probably felt like I did about collect call from county jail this morning
I don't know anyone in the country jail, and I'm not looking to make new friends there. It was a wee bit of an emphatic refusal of charges.

I would imagine I felt in some ways similar to how Joe Wilson felt this morning.

10. We got called by a Repug pollster yesterday
I wasn't home, dammit!
My wife answers, guy says he is so-and-so with RPM and would like her to take a quick survey. Wife says "what does RPM stand for?" They guy says "I can't tell you now, but will afterward." You believe that?
Anyway, he proceeds to ask a few questions like what is most important" taxes, crime, education. More stuff about guns, abortion.
It became apparent that they were looking for answers that fell into the fear and greed categories because he said "ok, we won't be calling you any more." My wife said wait a minute, you said you would tell me what RPM meant. The guy says: "Republican Party of Minnesota."

Hahahaha!

My wife thought she did a good job (she did) but wishes I had taken the call.

I told her I would have had that guy in tears at the end if I had taken it.

12. Actually, it's SOP for them not to tell you who they are until done
I've been polled by reputable organizations (ex. Quinnipiac) and they do it also because the answer could influence your responses.

They're still skunks though.
