Clear Channel hosts strike against company
Edited on Thu Feb-26-04 11:13 PM by ArtieBoy
The Regular Guys, a "shock" radio show in Atlanta, is striking against Clear Channel, saying they will not return to the air until the company can give them a clear definition of what "indecent" is. All reference to the show has been removed from the station's web site.

Earlier this week Clear Channel ended it's "Bubba the Love Sponge" show. The show, based in Tampa, was syndicated to several stations around the Southeast and had been fine over $700,000 for indecency by the FCC. Tuesday New York host Howard Stern joked that the only thing George W. Bush had accomplished was getting Clear Channel to cancel Bubba. Wednesday, Clear Channel nixed Stern from six of it's stations. The company announced a zero tolerance policy for "indecent" humor, saying any DJ making an on-air remark that drew the FCC's interest would be fired and would have to chip in on the fine. Sensing an anti-ranchy humor attitude growing, the Regular Guys (Larry Wachs, Eric Von Haessler) called their program director into the studio and said that if he couldn't tell them what "indecent" was according the company policy by 10 a.m. they would be on strike for an indefinite period of time, and did not want any "best of" shows to play during their absence.

Whadda ya think of that?

Edit for sentence structure.

8. They aren't the only ones
DJs around here were having fun all day asking before they did some kind of gag if they would get in trouble with the FCC for doing it. I don't think they know the political angle, but they seem to be stepping it up. This could blow up in CC's face.

I somehow have no problem with that.

3. media reports about stern are oblivious to the bush angle~
which isn't a surpise. it may be a coincidence, it may not... but there's no denying stern's been knocked off the air at CC immediately after turning the eye on bush and talking about frankin. hmmm.

7. I would be more supportive
But I remember the out-of-control bashing they gave the Dixie Chicks last spring. I'm not a fan of the Dixie Chicks, but all the ClearChannel stations went way overboard on that one.
