Poll question: What strawman issue will Dubya shove down our throats this fall?
IMHO, in the last few years, especially since OJ killed his wife and his poolboy, our media has focused on "tree" issues in order to prevent intelligent public discussion about "forest" issues.

Examples are numerous: sharks, (innocent) Gary Condit, stem cells, Martha Stewart, D.C. snipers, Elizabeth Smart, partial-birth abortion, Jessica Lynch, etc. You know, fun stuff. Pro wrestling stuff.

While each of the above certainly deserved some treatment, none of them deserved the consideration and time that might have been reasonably applied to foreign policy, the economy, and a vision for the future.

Our incestuous American Media/Right Wing Conspriracy will certainly not let Democratic candidates discuss REAL issues in the months preceding the 2004 primaries.

Plus, after emerging from his annual August retreat from accountability, traditionally the Rovestag's sock puppet announces some sharks/condit/iraq issue our highest national priority.

Who's the straw man this fall?

Who does Bush unite us to hate this year?

Did I miss anything huge?

1. When Numbnut takes time to mention it in a RARE press conference...
The hub-bub about gay marriage will take front page coverage off of the crimes of the * administration.

2. It already has...and folks are falling for it...
It's not the true lead issue....but it does not take much analysis or thought so it sells. Everyone has an opinion...Everyone wants to talk....

Good poll. Any of those choices is a possibility.

8. As of the end of day one, with 37 votes:
Iran: 8 votes, 22%
Gay Marriage: 21 votes, 57%
North Korea: 3 votes, 8%
Executive privilege: 0 votes, 0%
War in Iraq: 0 votes, 0%
Supreme Court: 1 votes, 3%
Anti-Bush movement: 2 votes, 5%
China: 0 votes, 0%

So far, you folks believe the Rovestag is behind CNN's massive coverage of the gay marriage epidemic.

9. After listening to the Sunday morning news programs, the Press has voted.
Gay Marriage by a landslide.

Don't libs see this as the minefield it is?

This is a "sharks/Condit/sniper" crisis direct from beltway sources, and intended to mobilize conservatives against a strawman issue (as DUers accurately predicted in the last day).

Once one begins debating the content of the argument, one arouses such passions that backing out becomes very sticky.

We should all demand answers to:

Who raised this argument now?

How is it that suddenly the two biggest hand-puppets in the world suddenly made Gay Marriage this Sunday Morning's issue?

How is it that these two 'leaders' who've most recently disagreed about the definition of 'just war' simultaneously see eye-to-eye against butt sex?

Who the hell ceded these f*ckers moral authority on THAT subject?

Don't you guys see?

This is the pattern. We ceded Iraq to the Rovesatg last fall. We can't cede the entire debate to a junior high level before the primaries. THEY WIN AT JUNIOR-HIGH LEVEL. It's all they understand. They never progressed to adulthood.

10. So every morning show, including Late Edition, had an extended discussion
Washington Journal led off their Saturday program with the Gay Marriage question.

If they lead off tomorrow with the same question, we'll know:

It's Gay Marriage August!

Throw the Press a bone we can all chew on!

13. "Gay Marriage Aug. 04 "reminds me of "Stem Cell August 2001"
Remember when the most important thing Chimpy had going on in August 2001 when he was done talking to the cows in Crawford, was talkin' 'bout stem cells and outlawin' human cloning?? So much so that he pooh-poohed memos and briefings that something big and bad was about to happen??

:scared:

It's deja vu all over again...

15. I don't think gay marriage will have the legs
Gay marriage debate will do the way of cloning. I think it can stay the #1 topic of conversation until September but won't dominate Bush's autumn rants.

I expect Syria, Iraq, and Iran will come up quite often. I'm also nervous about this "new" terrorist attack in the makings. Bush would love to stand on top of another pile of rubble for a photo op, the creep.
