Funny facts about the California Recall
Edited on Sat Aug-02-03 03:02 PM by Walt Starr
1) The punch card ballots can only support 300 candidates, if there are more than that two punch cards will be required for every voter making counting the votes a complete nightmare.

2) Upwards of 300 people have filed the necessary paperwork. If all end up qualifying, nightmare scenario in #1 goes into effect.

3) Since whoever gets the most votes wins the elction and there could quite literally be hundreds of candidates, it is concievable that less than 100,000 people could determine who is the next governor of California.

The Republicans are such idiots.

NOT QUITE WHO EVER GETS THE MOST VOTES. Davis needs a majority 51%. that is what makes it so unfair a puke can win with amillion votes less, kinda like chimp.

2. I was speaking specifically ab out the replacement portion
And yes, it is conceivable that less than 100,000 people could determine who holds the governorship of California just by running the numbers.

Davis, with approximately a 20% approval rating, is nearly guaranteed to lose this effort. Hard fact, but I give the man as much of a chance of winning the recall right now as I give Al Sharpton of winning the Democratic nomination for president.

7. That's how it works in the U.S. since 2000
Dumbass* set the bar low. Republicans now need less than 1/10th of 1% of the vote to be selected.

3. Yeah, but can you imagine...
1. Someone like Ron Jeremy wins with 93,235 votes (out of 12 million). California now takes the crown from Minnesota for most embarassing governor in history. It can happen.

2. The ballot goes to several pages in length, the voter throws up his hands and votes NO on the recall, seeing it's a farce. It can happen - probably more likely than a really fat, ugly porn star with lots of friends winning the election.

I say FLOOD THE BALLOT!

5. The pukes may be idiots, but they don't care as long as they
get a repuke into the office. They don't care about anything at all except getting their people into office however they can, and having those people screw the little guy once they do get into office. The sweet irony of the whole recall effort is that, if a nutball or oddball is elected (Ron Jeremy, etc.), or if someone gets in who does an even worse job than Davis, the repukes will be the ones to get the blame and suffer the backlash.

8. on the other hand
If enough candidates file to run we just may resolve the budget shortfall on the filing fees....

As much as I detest Davis I want to see the no on the recall carry the day. This latest effort by repukes to suborn an election is detestable at best. Why, I wonder, are the democrats not uniting behind Davis as any party with balls would do? Instead we see several prominent dems lining up to run, or asking Davis to step aside, and nothing from a united party speaking clearly about the motives of the repukes here in California.

I cannot help but wonder if, at my advancing age, I will ever see the democratic party speak clearly from a unified and moral position.

9. If you look beyond the hijinks and humorous aspects of this
recall, you are left with the sinking feeling that our Democracy is being undermined by those who stand to benefit from a non-democratic ruling party. What's next? No elections anymore? Will our governors be appointed by the WH in the future?
