Is there a new theme being pitched by the Repubs?
I've heard subtle references to 9/11 that make me believe that the repubs are going to try a variation on the terror theme against Kerry and the Democratic Party in general.

Karen Hughes was implying that 9/11 was an event that "changed everything" and that the Democrats are acting as if it never happened.

A few weeks ago, Laura Ingraham was on Hardball after the debates saying that the Dems were acting if 9/11 never happened.

Peggy Noonan said that the Democratic candidates were living in a parallel universe where 9/11 never happened.

It's a subtle but recurring theme. It's as if they expect that since 9/11 happened, the only logical course of action the nation can follow is to re-elect (their perspective, not mine) Bush. In their universe, because 9/11 happened, there can be no debate about anything.

Has anybody else picked up on this subtlety?

2. the ALL get their talking points, threads, catch phrases etc....
....
from the GOP/White House/Rove evil empire first thing in the morning....

it's comical, really. it starts with your local guy in the morning; Blimpy harps on it for three hours at mid=day; all the second tier guys on Salem Broadcasting repeat it ad infinitum; Hannity and O'Reilly hammer on it in the evening....it moves like shit through a goose.

They want people looking into that screen shouting "Long Live Big Brother! I have learned to love Big Brother"

7. Exactly, cheryl27
This is nothing new for the Republicans at all. It's their time-tested strategy of trying to make people too scared to vote Democratic.
"Ooooohhhh, are you SURE you want to do that? It might not be the smartest choice you've ever made. Just to be SAFE, you'd better vote Republican, so nothing will change and you can just go on with your life the same as always."
They know that there simply aren't enough people who share their ideology to ensure winning an election, so they have to boost their numbers with frightened grandmas.

11. that same theme
is being pushed by new Boeing ads. Stealth corporate/pentagon $$$ indoctrination unfortunately. And the RNC has the nerve to threaten over 200 stations to pull anti bush so called soft money ads put forward by moveon.org etc, implying they were complicit in breaking campaign finance laws! I'll say one thing they do better than the dems - stay on message. They decide on a catch phrase, then tell everyone to stick to script or else. I noticed that after the Florida fiasco too - everything that came out of anyone's mouth was identical phrasing, until everyone in the press and their audience believed it to be truth; whether it was or not, was irrelevant. Repeat something often enough and most people begin to believe.

4. It's the All-Purpose-Ad-Hominem
They are never obliged to deal with an issue on its merits (as long as they can get away with smearing the opposition) nor are they ever obliged to obtain any kind of consensus on specifically what must be changed or how. It's the Imperial Edict -- autocratic and peremptory.

6. You guys are right ...
When I read David Brock's book, Blinded by the Right, it woke me up quite a bit. In it, he talks about how the different Right-wing orgs coordinate and decide on the talking points, and then fax things back and forth until everyone is on board (now e-mail). Anyway, I digress. But it is amazing how the hacks go on different shows and stay 'on point.'

8. don't you guys know?
A vote for Kerry is a vote for terrorism! Only voting for Dear Leader Bush will protect the Fatherland! </Repug thinking>

Now I feel dirty.

10. Not totally new. They are all ...
... reading from the same script. They aren't even being subtle about it. Sometimes, it is exactly word for word from person to person. It is just more obvious, lately.

I've even heard: "The terrorists win if Bu$h* loses."

9/11 has a different, personal meaning for everybody. One does not need to be reminded of it daily to remember that it happened.

The way they use it for political fodder is insensitive and disgusting.
