Need environmental advice about mosquito breeding...
We in the southeast have been inundated with rain for over two months. One of our backyard neighbors has a major problem with drainage. She's a lovely Episcopalian widow of 84, and a good friend of ours (has 2 beers everyday after 6pm). A large oak on her property blocks drainage. Then the stagnant water breeds mosquitoes. Is there any environmentally sound approach to dealing with this problem?

1. Fill dirt.
Sorry if that sounds flippant, you've prob'ly already thought of that and there's some reason it won't work. If you can't make a drain, and you can't fill, and it's not deep enough for larvivorous fish (like some minnows), you might try to find some tadpoles and transfer 'em.

You should see the water on my land - it's been raining every day for three weeks...but then, I DO live in a South Louisiana swamp, literally.

I don't use chemical pesticides, on the property, in the pond, or on the skin. Only a bit o' citronella of exposed skin.
