and they are even dumber than they appear to be.
A few simple points:
Bush tried lie after lie on WMD, knowing that he had nothing. They were stupid enough to believe that no one would question them and they would get away with it.
They tried to fool the media by releasing hundreds of AWOL records, despite the fact that they had no documents accounting for Bush's missing six months. And what they did release raised more questions.
They outed Valerie Plame of the CIA, thinking they could get away with this treasonous act and intimidate others by making an example of Joe Wilson. They underestimated him.
They used a morbid 9/11 video for their first ad, underestimating the backlash from the WTC widows.
They tried to crucify Kerry in the media for an "affair" for which they had no proof. And it turned out to be nothing.
They spread the doctored photo of Kerry and Fonda, not suspecting that the original photographer would call it bogus.
They tried to misrepresent economic data, by declaring hamburger flipping as a manufacturing job.
They had Bush appear on MTP, an obvious act of desperation. It backfired big-time.
Bush said that he would appear before the TWO 9/11 commission heads only, but just for a maximum of ONE hour in PRIVATE. He thinks that he can get away with the sham. No one is buying.
Bush named Silberman to head up the Iraq Intel pass-the-buck commission. And the commission would not focus on the WH and the role of the OSP. It is dead in the water. And congress says that the OSP intel manipulation for the WH is fair game.
They thought they could get Diebold, etc. to rig the election electronically with no possibility of recount. Well, the whole issue is now mainstream. We at DU can take pride in getting the word out early on that they stole the 2002 elections. We were called conspiracy nuts then. But we were just smarter than they were We caught them. Johns Hopkins scientists and the Diebold emails proved it.
They decided to make gay marriage an issue out of desperation, but they failed to realize that it was not gay marriage per se, but their misguided attempt to amend the Constitution makes them look like idiots.
They had Clear Channel drop Howard Stern as another warning to those who would criticize Bush in the media. Howard is pissed and will keep hammering Bush to his 17 million mostly conservative audience. Even Pigboy doesn't like government interferencce in free-speech. And Imus, of all people, now supports Kerry.
What will they try next? Bin _laden captured? Who knows? But it will surely be just another act of desperation that will backfire. As they all have.
Bush has nothing to say except terra, terra, terra, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11, Saddam, Saddam, Saddam. It won't wash any longer.
