bill maher, and other pundits and commentators have been talking about the supposedly inevitable capture of Osama, coming soon before the election, to boost w's falling poll numbers, sort of the like the capture of saddam was supposed to do.
many journalists speculate from recent reports that Osama has already been captured, and is being held by Pakistanis to be released at the most politically efficacious time on orders from the U.S. this same scenario has been speculated on regarding Saddam's capture.
both Osama and Saddam are former, if not current c.i.a. operatives. both have decades of history with the bush family and it's cronies. so for someone to suggest that this administration would time his capture, to suck the most dramatic and political effect out of it, is not so far fetched.
and it's not too much of a stretch of the imagination to suspect that, like reagan's deal with the iranians holding u.s. hostages, to hold them a little longer to make carter look bad, to suspect that these people would manipulate people for political gain.
would they time public things like disasters and captures and conventions for psychological effect? would they exploit the horror of 9-11 for political gain? they are. so why is it so hard to wrap one's mind around the idea that 9-11 could have been designed to have exactly the effect that it has had?
