I just got this fascist e-mail
Another "God chose George W. Bush for the presidency" e-mail. I guess if we oppose the president we are sinning against God.
_____________________________________________________________________
I'm at the 8:00 am service at my church, St. Johns at Lafayette Square, across from the White House. (I wanted to go early because I was going for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Manassas.) Much of the service was uneventful — nice, but uneventful — until it comes to the part of the service when the Minister says, "Greet one another in the name of the Lord." I turn to my right to exchange the peace with my friend, Amy Fox Smythe, who was on the other end of my pew. I then shake hands with the person in front of me, and turn around to say hello to the person behind me.

The person behind me was our 43rd President, George W. Bush. I am not kidding. A small crowd was forming around him, and not wanting to delay the church service or bother him by waiting to shake his hand, I turned back around and sat down and talked to Amy. About 30 seconds later I felt a hand on my left shoulder and turned around to see President Bush with his hand extended. "Peace of the Lord, " he said, and held my hand with both of his. "Peace of the Lord," I replied, and held both his hands and smiled at him.

I turned back around and was remarkably calm about the fact that the most powerful person in the world was sitting two feet behind me. I could hear him flipping through his bulletin as the Minister made the announcements. I loved the idea of him thinking, "Oh, there's a covered dish next Sunday."

We prayed and when I stood up to go to the communion rail, he got up and walked down the aisle behind me. We passed a little old lady who said, "Mr. President, I pray for you every day." To which he said, "That's a very special gift. Thank you so much." We got to the communion rail and there were two spaces, one in front of us and one around the side of the altar . I started off around the corner. He stopped me and whispered, "No, no. I'll go around" and motioned for me to take the closer spot.

The only exception made in the entire service was that the President was allowed to leave first and then the rest of the congregation followed.

With all sincerity, and partisanship aside, I tell you: This is a special man! There is a peace and a Godliness about him. It radiates from him. It is the only reason that I was able to remain calm. It was more than the adrenaline I've felt when I've met other famous people. A goodness flows through this man. He has more than my vote in November. He has my respect, my prayers, and my gratitude. Whatever your political affiliation, and whether or not you agree with his decisions, you should take comfort in the fact that — despite recent press attacks — this is a man of integrity who makes decisions because he believes that they are RIGHT, not popular. He makes these decisions with a heavy heart and through prayer.

8. Oh, bullshit
presidents don't worship without a truckload of security personnel, even the honest ones, and wihtout having a special place to sit.

I cannot believe at all that the secret service would allow any president to go sit in a random pew without filling the surrounding pews with secret service.

Maybe, but I doubt it.

And the style of this email is so much like the style of other rightwing UberChritian shmarmy writings. Of cuorse there's an "old woman" who sayus "I pray for you every day". Of course the president initiates the "handshake of fellowship". And of course the president whispers "No, I'll go around".

Nah, it's just too fakey.

Just like the stories of little timmy hit by the car who sees the white light and offers his kidney to his brother, ad nauseum...

If the people who write these idiot stories wouldn't load them up with special thing after special, they'd be far more believable.

On edit I thought I had seen an "urban myth" about either that or the other kid had some rare affliction.

he'd go to a SM churh no?

And this guy went to an 8 am servie so he could have breakfast in MAnassas? Let's say it was an hour service. And this is a weekday, since Bush spends saturday nights at Camp David. On a weekday, you are lucky, at 9 am if you can get from Downtown DC to Manassa in two hours, so he's having breakfast at 11:00? geez, is this really the best they can do?

still, I can't believe he would go without security all around him. Even in a church.

Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 09:16 PM by Journeyman
and found only this email. Searched for "Washington DC Churches" and found a website that supposedly lists all the area's churches (http://dcregistry.com/churches.html) but doesn't have a St Johns, let alone anything "at Lafayette Square."

What sort of Christian would lie about the name of his Church? One who finds merit in a liar would be my guess.

Well, on edit I just read Rabrrrrrr's post (#11) and found there is a St. John's at Lafayette Square. I guess it's all true, then.

52. Actually, there is a small Episcopal church there.
I'm trying to remember if it's St. John's. At any rate, I can testify that the church DOES exist. I can't testify to the e-mail, though.

And as for what kind of aura Bush radiates, well, I've never been in the same room with him (THANK GOD FOR THAT). But he comes off as very testy with the press. I think any attempt to paint him as some sort of special leader is utter hooey. I wish the David Frums et al would get over it already.

41. bull fukkin' shite
No way the president could just pop in and surprise anyone...I was at a presidential appearance at a local elementary school last spring, so i know the drill...

the author would've known the president was there because of the eight dozen secret service agents who would've surrounded the congregation and kept lookout...not only that, but secret service agents would've been there hours in advance and physically search everyone at the door as they came in. And the author would've probably had to submit his/her name for clearance days in advance so he/she/it could actually enter the church...this ain't even close to trying to pretend to be anywhere near what we consider the truth.

45. Why would bush go to church?...
I thought he had a direct link with God, that would supersede going to any church; at least IMHO. In fact, he should start his own church, God generally doesn't just call up theologians and discuss things with them, if he did, the world would be a better place.

I think this story is bunk because there is no reference to bush being struck down as he attempted to enter the church, that would have gotten someones attention.

The writer also left out the levitation, the halo, the chorus of angels and the instantaneous healings that would have occurred when the Prophet from Crawford entered, (just in case he survived being struck down at the door).

I find the whole scenario suspect, especially since he is in Crawford anyway.

O8)

Edited on Sun Mar-07-04 03:42 PM by suegeo
I bet Laura has to fill up a diaper bag with books, little toys, and graham crackers to give George to keep him from getting fussy during the long sermons. I'll bet the pew he sits in is right next to the "cry room" they have set up for small children.

This guy thinks George is gonna read the missile? George himself admits he doesn't read the news, he has experts go over it for him.

ON EDIT: Hint to Laura: I hear that George gets real distracted when you read stories to him about pet goats. I guess you can't read out loud to him in church, but maybe he could contain himself long enough by just looking at the pictures?
