911 Group “Peaceful Tomorrows” is funded largely by Teresa Heinz
Saw this posted on another website...so...not trusting this rethug because most of them plagerize like crazy I decided to do a search and found this on...guess where...!!..."freerepublic" of all places...not to many other places had it either...at least I can't find an original source...

has anyone seen this and what are your thoughts on it...I can't find anything that would debunk this and I can't find if it's even true or not...anyone...?

The 'Offended' 911 Group “Peaceful Tomorrows” is funded largely by Teresa Heinz

“Peaceful Tomorrows” is being portrayed as an independent group of relatives of victims of the 911 attacks. They are getting a lot of press claiming to be outraged over the new Bush ads.

Call me insensitive if you like, but I wonder if this outrage could possibly be a tad overblown, and more likely attributable to the millions and millions of dollars this group has received from endowments chaired by Teresa Heinz, wife of Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry.

According to their own contribution page, “Peaceful Tomorrows is a project of the Tides Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.”

According to an article in the Pittsburgh Review, “Between 1995 and 2001, $4.3 million of that money came from the Howard Heinz Endowment. In 2002, it and the Vira Heinz Endowment blessed The Tides Center, a San Francisco spin-off of the Tides Foundation, with another $190,000 while the two endowments gave $1.6 million to the new Tides Center for Western Pennsylvania.” (The Heinz Endowments have teamed up with a secretive left-wing group)

The money that flows into The Tides also flows out. They have given grants totaling $489,000 to the Iraq Peace Fund, who used that money to fund the anti-war marches and media costs of 27 groups, including MoveOn.org, whose purpose is to defeat George W. Bush.

Other Tides Center projects include The Youth Gender Project, which seeks to "empower and support transgender, gender-variant, intersexed and gender-questioning youth and young adults."

They also shoveled $200,000 towards The Ruckus Society - founded in 1995 to train activists in violent protest against biotechnology, globalization and the World Bank. It incited property destruction in the Seattle riots of 1999 and Washington, D.C., the following year.

Now, if you really want to get mad, you should also know that $8,000,000 in taxpayer money flowed into the Tides Center in the form of federal grants made by eight different agencies between 1997 and 2001.

3. I found it
at another site in an ongoing argument with some rethugs who post this type of stuff but never give the source for where they get their info...
they post this type of stuff and claim it as their own...they never give credit to the original author...

So I did some digging and found it on freerepublic and a few other right wing blogs...but no original author...so I wanted to find out who originally did this and bust them with plagerism...

I brought it here because many here on DU are good at finding out if this type of stuff is garbage or not...

15. What is the complaint - what activity broke the 501c3 rules?
By definition a 501c3 is non-political. If these folks feel it has broken the rules they should turn it in with the proof and collect 10% of the IRS eventual recovery.

501c3 can make restricted donations to others where the restriction is that the money be used for a non-political project - but this is "iffy".

Voter ed and registration is non-political. Issue ads - as in against the war - are non-political - but best you not show Bush's face or say his name!

In any case it is a series of assertions about groups other than the group she runs.

And as usual - it cites no action that broke a rule - only that they are against Bush policies.

So I think this is just some more freeperland bullshit...

2. Even if it's true, and even if the morals were sound...
...the funding was BEFORE 9/11.

4. check it out...
here's the original thread that I am referring to...

Original Post

On this site that I belong to there are many rightwingers who post things like this and take credit for it...they go out and cut and past things from several sources and then try to pass it off as their onw...they can never post anything original...

I would like to know two things...is this for real and is there any facts to back it up...and 2...who the original author is...

5. Here is some information
Edited on Mon Mar-08-04 04:22 AM by La_Serpiente
Peaceful Tomorrows receives no funding from 9/11 charities or disbursements. We depend entirely on the generosity of individuals and foundations to continue our work. We are a project of the Tides Center, which is a 501(c)(3) organization, making your contribution tax-deductible.

and more....

Peaceful Tomorrows
Organized primarily by families of victims, Peaceful Tomorrows seeks to open up a public dialogue about appropriate alternative responses to the September 11 tragedies. Efforts will be made to raise awareness of the complex issues involved in responding to terrorism and influence the US policy towards more effective, democratically-based responses to terrorism in both domestic and foreign policy.

According to NewsMax, it was the freepers who found out the info.

Though the Tribune-Review report was first unearthed by researchers on FreeRepublic.com within 36 hours of the inception of the Bush ad controversy,

Note: I am still researching the claims.

11. Uh, what do you mean "we", paleface?
I dont have a problem with good, moral rich people like Kerrys.

Being fortunate is no crime- its how you use your time on earth that matters!

The Kerry's do a lot of good, and I have no problem with them being well off.

Are we suposed to just check our own money at the door?

Sounds like bringing a knife to gun fight to me- not a bright idea. Got any others?

is behind this smear, it appears, isn't he the owner of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review? Shouldn't we investigate all of his quasi-campaign adventures?
