Anyone here inTexas using/abusing the tax-free weekend?
Such a limited number of items available for tax free status. I do all my shopping for the kids the weekend before so I get to go through well-stocked shelves. The stores run out of stuff here during our tax free weekend. The merchants don't order enough. It's too big of a hassle.

1. I did some shopping today.
But it wasn't tax free stuff and the traffic in Austin, Texas was worse than any Saturday I can remember. Wish I had stayed home. I plan on waiting till the Outlet Mall restocks to buy school clothes for my social butterfly.

2. Question:
Do they exempt school textbooks on this weekend?

I might go shopping for my textbooks and some clothes. In three weeks - after a two-year absence from the classroom - I will once again be a student! (yay!)

6. Do the Math
I'm always amused by the fervor to save 7 or 8 per cent. Even a minor "sale" will offer 10%. Stores love it because of the volume.

I don't have school age children, but I can't see the big deal.
