Kerry in Florida: "We will look at those Diebold machines....
and make sure they count every vote with a paper record."

I just caught a bit of the speech he gave in Hollywood Florida today on CNN. I can't find the text of the speech anywhere but he was saying this time in FL things will be different. He said they have a legal team in place to make sure that every vote is counted. He also said they would be making sure people were not turned away on false pretenses as in 2000. Woo f'ing Hoo!!

3. Wow! Thanks CatWoman!
from the link....

<snip>
Not only do we want a record level of turnout to vote, we want to guarantee that every vote is counted," the presumptive Democratic nominee told about 500 people at a town hall meeting Monday.

Kerry rarely mentions the legal battle over the 2000 election while campaigning, but he did so repeatedly in the state that was the epicenter four years ago. Responding to a voter who asked, "What can you do to prevent them from stealing the election again?", Kerry, a lawyer and former Massachusetts prosecutor, said his campaign was assembling a legal team to examine districts which had problems.

"We're going to pre-check it, we're going to have the legal team in place. ... We're going to take injunctions where necessary ahead of time. We'll pre-challenge if necessary," the four-term Massachusetts senator said.

PS.... Your kitties Rock!

4. I hope they test those machines and change the date.
The date should be set to voting day. They should be allowed to download last changes after reboot, then reboot again, test it all twelve hours under the watch of video cameras scrutinizing every touch.

I don't trust these machines.

Even this is not good enough. The code needs to be completely reviewed before it goes on any machine. And, this they will not do.

I know exactly how I could steal an election if I were Diebold, and make sure no one would find out -- in time.

5. Exactly, Its a nice sentiment but unspecific and non-commital
like the DNC. They have said stated support, but when it comes to specifics it seems the DNC has turned and gone the other way.

I hope that they are true to their commitment to ensuring fair voting procedures.

However, simply saying a paper trail doesnt mean a paper ballot, which is the only way to ensure a proper procedure.

They need to be much more specific and state that it must be a separate paper BALLOT that is necessary to ensure fair and valid paper trail.

We need a separate paper ballot placed in a SEPARATE box and disconnected from the voting machine companies and totally overseen by communities at large.

8. For the first election especially, they should have a redundant
ballot so they could guarantee that the votes were correct.. No one will convince me that with the billions of bucks spent to RUN for office, that spending the extra is not worth it..

a simple print out with a number that holds the vote.. Voter verifies it, puts it into a box..

since they are numbered, there would be no way for some of them to "get lost" accidentally..

The papers are tallied... then they run the machines. Both totals would have to match, or the papers would be the accurate count.. It's too simple..

Basically we do not need the machines to start with..

There should also be a "none of the above" as a selection..

The ballots should also be separate.. one for the people running and a separate one for the "issues".. Lots of people do not even want to vote for them.. The possibility that someone's whole ballot might be invalidated by a duplicate vote on an issue is too scary.. Some of our "extra" stuff asks us to vote for two or even 3 ..
