1. Glad it was published

Too bad the writer (Paula Span, Washington Post Staff Writer) had to include these biased and unfounded comments:

snip
"The number of military families who oppose Operation Iraqi Freedom, though never measured, is probably small"

If never measured then where does she get off saying it's probably a small number of people??

snip
"Of course, most people with relatives in wartime service, a group historically more likely to express approval than distrust, don't feel the same way. Though public support for the war was found to have declined in the most recent Washington Post-ABC News poll, most military families say their support for the action and the president remains unwavering."

Of course most of them don't feel the same way?? Their support remains unwavering?? How did she determine that?? How many people did she interview or poll??

snip
"Kimberly Huff, of the antiwar T-shirts, no longer attends meetings of the Family Readiness Group in Riverside, Calif., which supports relatives of her husband's Army Reserve unit. She was an active member for 10 months, until her shirts, and the interviews she gave at an antiwar rally in Los Angeles, made her "kind of a black sheep," Huff says. "They stopped calling to see how I was. . . . I was kind of ignored at meetings." Now she feels more alone, though unrepentant."

What is this unrepentant crap?? Kimberly Huff has nothing to repent!!

I'm glad for any attention the media gives these families but this needs to get the attention of some honest journalists who don't have any other agenda.

6. Lots of families oppose this war
The Washington Post piece is an example of horrible writing. How the author could ever write this sentence:

"The number of military families who oppose Operation Iraqi Freedom, though never measured, is probably small."

And have an editor approve it for publication amazes me. Based on what? Guessing? Tarot card readings?

Bullshit.

9. I got an email from military families speak out
Edited on Fri Mar-12-04 08:41 AM by Mari333
They said the article worked...dozens and dozens and dozens of emails from military families flooded their mailbox , all of them wanting to sign up with mfso.org!
That was what I hoped for. Thats all. And the word got out. It was on the msnbc website also...so the soldiers have a FACE and people dont forget they exist, or forget that military families are pissed off .
and I agree..the authour seemed to have an agenda. I also talked to her about PNAC, the OSP, the blackout of body bags and wounded being shown in the media..she pretty much sound byted me. Ive been anti this occupation from day one, but you wouldnt know that to read the article.

my heart goes out to you, Mari.

Thank you for your courage and your commitment. Because of people like you, I have faith that the lies and corruption of the neocoms will be revealed.

I've followed you and your son's story fairly closely. I never know what to say. It's so strange to truly feel someone's pain on a chat board and try to respond in a meaningful way. But know you have reaaly touched me and I hope your son is home safe and soon.

But now this, this I know how to respond to. Fantastic! I am so glad to see you doing this. You are planting wonderful seeds that will no doubt make a difference. (Heck, it already made a difference to me, if only to raise my spirits during my own slightly rough patch.)

Seriously, I know it will inspire lots of other in your sitution.

Keep it up, Mari333!
