low interest rates not always a good thing
last week Cheney was in DM talking to a group of Bush supporters, getting them all ready to vote for BUsh in November and to also drum up support for the republican opponent of US rep. Bosely. Anyway, as he was going on about the good things Bush has brought us he mentionned how interest rates are still low. This is something tht has bugged me for a while now. I know investors ad people taking out loans like low interest rates for obvious reasons but the prolonged rate dip really can't be seen as a good thing. The only reason interest rates were low was in an attempt to keep cash flowing in a weak economy. Low interest rates are typiclly a sign of an economy in need of help and we've had low rates for almost two years now. How can they keep touting that as a plus when eventually interest rates need to go back up if the economy is imprving?

1. You know, that exact same thing was bugging me too.
I saw an web banner ad for GeeDubya and it touted "low interest rates" as one of the good things about his pResidency. Like you, I wondered, how can that be so good? It generally means the economy sucks and the Fed is trying to kick-start it!

And when "recovery is just around the corner," that means those rates must necessarily go up!

I guess they just figure Americans are dumb enough not to ask.

2. wonder if Kerry will make use of that sometime?
unless we are missing something one would think that it would be a fair, informative detail to bring up when campaigning. He doesn't need to advocate raising interest rates, just maybe point out why they've been depressed for such a long time
