drinking and smoking vs.Fatty foods and obesity
I was eating pizza with my friends a few days ago and we asked on of my friends why she didnot want a slice and she said "there are more fun ways of killing yourself.Id rather die of bad lungs or liver from drinking or smoking rather than die of clogged arteries heart trouble or diabetes from Greasy cheese and other fatting foods" I had never thought of it that way before and with all the threads about obesity i'd thought i would fan the flames.just on note she is very healthy normal weight and excerises and i dont take one side or the other

1. Smoking is very bad for your heart too
so, if she smoked (and you don't say whether she does or not) she still might die of heart disease, just like an obese person might.

As far as I can see, pretty much all ways of dying are very unpleasant. All part of the rich tapestry of life I suppose. :)

2. I'm of the drinking and smoking variety
Never quite understood the food addiction thing. I eat alot, I guess, but I haven't eaten "fast food" or even much processed for years (yes, that's a hudget thing, too). I think it's a vanity thing, too.

3. You eat you drink you affect only yourself ~You smoke you poison every

person around you. You conveniently lump them all together when they are in fact quite different. If I put the same amount of arsenic in the air from my factory (as one does from cigarette smoke)I would be fined and possibly imprisoned. The same goes for the many many other carcinogens in cigarette smoke.

8. You are absolutely correct about pregnant women
I stand corrected. I hope my main point was not lost though. Smoking affects more than just yourself. Drinking by itself only affects yourself. Granted actions taken after you've been drinking may have profound affect on others but it isn't the drinking, it's the later action taken. It is the actual act of smoking that has detrimental affect to all within range of a smoker.

4. It's not the fatty foods. Its the sugar. If you just ate the cheese,
pepperoni/sausage and tomato sauce and left the bread and sodas, you would improve your heart's health. Fast food minus the buns, fries, and sugary drinks should be obesity neutral, according to the empiracle data almost everyone is seeing everywhere by now.

10. I think that data is hype
Most everything you see or read about food is presented by food processors. Everything you ever needed to know about food was taught you you when you were a kid. Eat a balanced diet and in moderation.

Not eating carbs is not eating a balanced diet. You can't retain a wait loss by forcing yourself to eat according to a diet plan because you must remain on that plan to retain the weight loss.

Eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly is all you need to do. Of course that message is not hyped so most people will not do it.

5. Health concerns...
... among Americans are fairly recent. Wonder why? True, we do know more about what contributes to certain health problems, but why all the concern of late over "performance"... whether it's on the job, or whatever.

Do we all want to live to be 100?

Are we all trying to attract mates?

Are we worried about having the stamina to work three jobs?

Did we all feel that bad when we were smoking and eating ice cream?

Suddenly, people who smoke, drink, or are overweight are distanced from "the rest of us." I wonder why. What is behind this phenomenon? Why all of a sudden now?

7. my oh so obsessive pc friend
who lost her mother last summer to bladder cancer.

her children at 5 years old was lecturing me on smoking and making snide remarks to me as she stood their proudly, cause she taught her children to hate smoking so. actually what she taught was to hate the smoker. i made clear to children that they dont talk to adults that way unacceptable but they still continually tell my children how i am going to die, regularly

after all there grandmother died this summer, and she use to smoke

sittin with my friend thru the death of her mother, being there for her thru out the experience, significant in her life as she cared for her, after a few months later in talk of it and how she was doing saying the smoking killed her. when did she smoke i say, when she was 40 she quit. what makes you think the cancer is from smoking. it is i know it is. ok, bottomline this woman was 87 year old and had such lite in her eyes, and beauty and joy in the world. geez girl if i live to 87 year old and died in grace as this woman did, with you there caring for her and all her family i think i would be doing pretty darn good

there has to be a healthy balance. we dont want our children to become drug addicts, nor pick up cig, nor become obsese, nor an alcoholic

but i have kids in my boys school praying for me cause i am going to die. tomorrow. they have been so placed in fear, they think a couple puffs of a cig and they are dead

abstinence or you are going to get aids and die

never drink or you are going to be an alcoholic, it is a disease

puff of joint and your life will end, die or needle in arm and never have a life again

just really conditioning thru out society

i am not so fearful in live, nor so judgement in life. btw, i like this firend of yours. we are retarding our children. sitting them up to see if you dont carefully follow all the lines in life we are directed, it results in death.

anyway, not my issue, we embrace the drunk and the tea tottler in morality equally in this house. we embrace our flaws just as we honor our gifts, and we thank for all

but from an old smoker to a young smoker. it is so very hard to quit, and there is so much judgement in our society to a smoker, such an ugliness to, and it is so hard to quit. i hate every single thing in smoking.......so to your friend. i hope she puts that one habit down, lol lol

11. NEWS FLASH
Everyone dies... "something" will kill us all..

This whole notion coming up "now" is just another way to "divide" us.

People Know their vices.. They do not need to be told :)

Carry on !
