Bush Is Now Without A Doubt Officially Not Popular

He is also in a very, very precarious position historically speaking. No incumbent has ever been this far behind at this point in a campaign and gone on to win.

*Rhetorical Question* So why is it that this is not really reported anywhere? This is actually a pretty important fact and a big story in and of itself and yet I have yet to see this mentioned in any mainstream source.

1. the myth of a 'close race' is essential

if they're going to steal it again.

the corporate media hasn't given up yet but when their asses begin to char, eventually they'll have to admit their pants are on fire.

2. Well, he still has a higher % approving than disapproving.
I'll like it better when it's 56% want him in jail, 30% no jail, 23% hand him over to the Iraqis.

3. The Party Breakdown is Interesting:
from CBS News (last poll):

Approve Dis DK
ALL 47 44 9
Republicans 86 9 5
Democrats 21 71 8
Independents 45 42 13

To me, this means still a lot of groung to be gained among all segments. Indepdendents should swing Dem as a group, I don't think 21% of Democrats will vote for Bush, and there have to be more than 9% of Republicans disenchanted with our president.

4. And when there is the Kiss-Ass crew at CNN still
covering up the bad things no one will ever really know just how bad Shrub is. That crew's actions are unpatriotic if you ask me. Let's accuse them of treason.

5. He's right on the cusp
• In March 1972, Richard Nixon had an approval rating of 53%. In the general election eight months later, he crushed George McGovern, winning 64% of the vote.

• In May 1984, Ronald Reagan had an approval rating of 52%. That November he went on to win reelection with 58% of the vote, garnering 525 electoral votes.

• In March 1996, Bill Clinton had an approval rating of 52%. In November he easily defeated Bob Dole.

The three incumbent presidents who lost their re-election bids, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, and the elder Bush, had lower approval ratings. In March 1976 Mr. Ford's was about 48%, in March 1980 Mr. Carter's was around 39% and in March 1992 Mr. Bush's was about 41%.

Obviously there is a floor below which a president ought not sink, but it is a much lower floor than many people suppose. Frank Newport, editor-in-chief of the Gallup Poll, put it this way: Mr. Bush's approval rating of 51% tells us this about his re-election chances: "not a lot."

But like some Stephen King horror, he's been amazingly resistant to vanquishment, shoved down into a decisive low-40 range. There's still a ways to go before he gets what he's due.

6. 51%?
"Mr. Bush's approval rating of 51% tells us this about his re-election chances: "not a lot.""

Not a single poll is now above 50% approval...Most below 50%...
