7. McGovern was, indeed, a Senator.
I'm saying that Dean would be the next McGovern.

Heck, if Dean is nominated, I'd be shocked to see him win DC! And even McGovern and Mondale won by 3-1 or 4-1 in DC, right?

10. I said the same thing
a week or so ago, and was thumped generously by this board.

I like Dean a lot, and I do see Bush becoming vulnerable...but Dean reminds me more of McGovern than either Clinton or Carter.

15. Dean is probably unelectable
He doesn't really stand for anything as much as "not Bush" - and his right wing economics that will turn off most Democrats, especially union workers and African-Americans.

50. Dean is no McGovern!
I am so sick and tired of people compariong him to McGovern. Where's the basis for this arguement? I have seen nothing! Dean is a no left winger. He is a centrist. He is a straight shooter and does not compromise the core principles of the Democratic Party unlike some presidential candidates I know of! Dean only wants to Demos to get some spine back. What is so wrong with fronting attacks on the Repugs with actions and not just rhetoric? The only reason anti-Dean Democrats particularly the DLCers and pseudo-conservatives are attacking Dean because Dean is getting his message across to America. That message is bold and it's Americans want to hear. Many voters are sick and tired of the same old DLC-inspired song and dance. Ithas failed and failed miserably (see the 2002 elections!). So why don't somebody tell me why in the hell Dean is being called a McGovern. I don't see it! I don't get it!

14. He was on Late Edition
Wolf asked him about Dean's popularity with Democrats, and he went into an explaination (with which I agree to some extent) that he thinks a Dean candidacy could land the Democratic party back into the wilderness.

Don't get me wrong....If Dean is the party's choice, I will work my tail off for him. He is not my first choice, because I really think we will have a better chance with a more "left of middle" candidate. I will go initially with Kerry. 'Course, I will hold my nose and vote Democratic even if the nominee is Holy Joe.

Dean is a Democrat, and leagues above the pretender in residence in the people's house now. With Leiberman, well, Bush lite is still better than the real thing.

23. Actually, McGovern Was A World War II HERO, And A Senator !!!
Something that apparently a lot of so-called Dems fail to realize over and over.

Or at least something that the Dems fail to throw back in the faces of McGovern critics.

BTW - Compared to McGovern, just exactly what have been the contributions made to this country by those very same critics. Other than being comfortable keyboard critics???

Give me a GIANT break!!!

20. I saw the show and Lieberman made an ass out of himself
IMHO. Attacking Dean for being like George McGovern and saying he couldn't "win the election and he would set the Democratic Party back 30 years....." He also attacked all the other candidates in general and said he had talked to Al and Tipper and they are happy in their new chapter of their life (said with a smile) and he felt sure Gore wouldn't run.

He was his typical arrogant/condescending self busily trashing the "liberal wing" of the party and spouting the DLC line.

Also said Dean didn't have credibility on a "strong defense" for America.

Anyone who saw it would probably be as disgusted as I was. He said very little about Bush's polocies because he was too busy trashing the Democrats.

Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 08:40 PM by BillyBunter
On the major issues, his policy positions are essentially identical to Bush's. Why should anyone vote for the 'me too' guy, when they have the original right there? Dean might lose big, but he also has a chance to win; I can't say the same thing about Lieberman.

Holy Joe sold his self to the Devil when he stood next to Jr and went along with Jr's every move.

I hate Holy Joe now and I use to like him. He seemed like such a nice guy when I watched him on c-span at the pancake house but now he can kiss my butt because that is what he has done to Jr.

The current batch in both parties is a crime against humanity and nothing but pond scum! and 2) ..this might make a few of you go up in flames but it must be asked: how the fuck did Gore chose this fucker in the first place??--or was Gore not as "pure" as some believe??

than Liberman could ever hope to be. He's a man who always spoke his mind, even if it was unpopular at the time, like the Vietnam War.
Being from South Dakota and meeting the Senator many times I feel I know him well.
By the way it's senator, not Gov.
