I was on the phone with a Kansas businessman today..
He said that he has never seen things so bad. That the job losses were getting out of hand. That people could not afford to buy things. That the Bush deficits were anything but conservative.

And that he was a Republican. Well, I knew that. After all, it's Kansas, that GOP bastion.

And he said he would vote Democratic this time.

This is Kansas. This is America.

2. I hope so.
I am also looking beyond the election. I don't want the Democratic Party hauled way to the right in an effort to get Bush out. I think we can win this thing AND stick to our liberal guns.

3. I keep looking at those 'red' states and those that they won by
less than 5% like Missour, Ohio, etc. Will this knee jerking Christian right still be able to pull it off?? I've heard repukes call into C-Span and rail against Bush and then end by saying they will vote for him again because we have to give him a chance. That's like saying you will let the rapist in the front door again because maybe this time he won't beat the shit out of you and rape you again!! I have hope for those "less than 5%" states but I really doubt the others. I heard during the primaries these editors of local newspapers being interviewed about the primaries in their states. They just drawled on with no enthusiasm about which Dem would win and then made statements like (I kid you not) "we pride ourselves in being the most republican state in the nation"....you can't make a dent in stupid shit like that.

7. Resist letting this get to you, if you can possibly do so.
Welcome to DU, by the way. We have most of the year still left before this is settled. The hard-core hopeless cases are just that. But as more people see those gas prices go up, and the unemployment situation stay mired in a mess, and our soldiers still dying, and the lies still coming, and more holes springing in the dike, and more grumbling and unhappiness, it can only help us good guys. BESIDES, if it gets THAT bad, the faithful are liable to get discouraged and not bother to vote. THAT would be a fabulous outcome. THAT will help us get the House back, and possibly also the Senate. We WANT these folks disconcerted and conflicted. The worse turmoil they're in, the better for us ALL.

6. It's not hard to see that even employed people
are hanging on to their cash a little tighter, even in Texas. They're figuring out that outsourced jobs means people can't buy US products.

BUSH IS TOAST!

10. I keep trying to tell y'all
Kansas is NOT happy. Standing room only at our Ad Astra dinner, yes Wes Clark was there but people were very excited and surprised at the turnout. Republicans around here do not like Bush*, they do not like being lied to and they are saying they will vote for anyone else but Bush*
