Ann Coulter Says Muslims 'Smell Bad'

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said syndicated columnist Ann Coulter, who frequently appears as a guest on cable news programs, made that Islamophobic remark in a recent commentary on Mel Gibson's new film "The Passion of the Christ."

Coulter wrote: "Being nice to people is, in fact, one of the incidental tenets of Christianity (as opposed to other religions whose tenets are more along the lines of 'kill everyone who doesn't smell bad and doesn't answer to the name Mohammed'). She also referred to: "(The Prophet) Muhammad's many specific instructions to kill non-believers whenever possible."

The thing that concerns me is that, although I know Coulter doesn't know what she's talking about, many people believe that what she says is factual.

Around the time of the first Crusade, Christians rarely bathed, but Moslems had to bathe every day before prayer. The Moslems were the ones declaring Christians "stinky", and probably had some justification to back it up back then.

Europeans at that time didn't really believe in a thing called bathing. People living in the rural areas of the British Isles at that time (with the exception of Muslim Spain) were probably the most well-bathed in Europe and that's more due to the fact that it rains a LOT in the British Isles, not because Europeans were very fastidious at the time.

If we were, bidets would be as popular here as they are in Europe.

But I have to tell you, Dr Fate, that I have noticed that when the subject of a thread happens to be a woman of the RW stripe -- be it Coulter, Ms Harris, Condi Rice or whomever... too many posts tend to take a decided turn toward sexual insults, vulgar jokes, etc. There's an undercurrent of sexism in the trend, one that as a woman makes me very uncomfortable to participate in threads here once they take such a turn.

So yeah, I can understand that you meant your post as a jest, but I hope you can also appreciate where I'm coming from. Call me old-fashioned (I probably am), but sometimes this really gets to me. It's not your post in particular, but I think it was probably the one that tipped me over the threshhold of stewing in silence.

Well, I actually had one guy tell me that Islam was an ethical religion because they had rules like spare the women and children and, oh yeah, the palms. Of course young men like me didn't get any protection.

And if it doesn't, what about its ethics?

Instead of listening to what "one guy tells you" you might take the time to actually learn what Islam is about for yourself. Then you wouldn't have to rely on hearsay or anecdotal evidence, you'd know for yourself and no longer be deluded about matters.

The fact is that you really shouldn't offer opinions on matters about which you know nothing. That fact, in itself, is wisdom. There are so many "Christians" who feel free to hate Muslims, even though they have next to no knowledge about this enormous group of people they hate or fear. It is that sort of ignorance that led to the Crusades and any number of other massacres that have plagued mankind throughout the ages.

Know this. People who desire that others shed blood on their behalf have ALWAYS preyed upon the fears of those who are without wisdom. They WANT you to hate and fear Muslims. There are so called Muslim "leaders" who WANT their followers to hate and fear Christians. There are Israelis who want other Jews to hate Palestinians. There are Palestinians who inspire other Palestinians to hate Jews. Protestants hating Catholics and vice versa.

These sorts of dichotomies are extremely useful to those who would maintain power. How many US soldiers would have followed orders had they been told to do so because Peak Oil is a problem and only the strong survive, therefore we must steal what is not ours? Not many I'd venture.

By believing what is fed to you, by hating and fearing Muslims you are empowering those select few who believe it is their birthright to control the world. They WANT you to hate and fear them because then it is easier to convince you to war with them, or to send your children to war with them. Barring that you will at least support their war on them. A war which benefits none but those select few. You are being used as a pawn in a mighty game of chess and you are following orders willingly and without question. Break free from the bonds! Know the truth. Education is everything, ignorance is your true enemy.

Or you can simply believe what some guy you once knew said. Something he no doubt "learned" from a propaganda piece aired by a "news" network with an agenda of their own. It's your call.
