FCC censors Pink Floyd . . . (yeah, you read it right) . . .
this radio station's listeners voted Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" the #1 album, and they wanted to play the whole thing . . . under FCC rules, however, they can't because the song "Money" is deemed indecent by the Feds since it contains one of the seven deadly words . . . under the pending legislation, the station's fine would be $275,000 . . . unbelieveable! . . .

8. Hey, wait a minute ...
This is a radio station taking an opportunity to stand up for our First Amendment! Huzzahs and kudos to them! Most FM stations would just edit 'Money' and that would be that. They seem just to want to play a quarter of a century old album unedited -- is that so wrong?

This is mildly subversive and kinda' brave. Cool.

10. dark days in radio(and America)
...I know that many here are not(and will never be) Howard Stern fans.

However, this sort of shit is an indication of how 'far back' we are in America.

This is the first time i'll register to vote(yeah, I know that I'm too late). But I will definitely do my best to bring that fucking Bush down from power.

Still, I have this rotten feeling(I hope I'm wrong!) that Dubya will somehow emerge victorious in the end.

14. Free DSotM
If I recall, the members of Pink Floyd -- in spite of whatever in-fighting -- are all pretty staunch civil libertarians and lefties. I also think Roger Waters was what Martin Dies (McCarthy's guru) would have called a "Red Diaper Baby".

Maybe a whisper or two in a few pink ears and we could enlist some much-needed help from Airstrip One.

15. wow
I remember when the song was new. And we here in SF had one FM station (KSAN commercial free). Only AM cut out the word shit. Seems we`re going backwards. And to play Zappa these day would give them a stroke.

19. FCC= Fundie Censorship Corporation
Jesus, that song has been on the radio for almost 30 years. It's also an album that has been on Billboard's list the longest.

The fundies have gotten hold of radio. I hope Stern's show stays and he keeps hammering on them.

Hey I thought that the GOP way is to get the Govt off our backs..I guess only if your rich, have no artistic value and your name is Pat Robertson.
The FCC is out of control..And like any right wing or religous nut they hate freedom..Just like oh say...
I know alot of Rap stars hate that double standard with Pink Floyd. But hey you stay on the charts for over 15 years and you can say BS all you want ..I say..
The Album is a masterpiece of modern music and true art.
They say Bullshit when they play the song on my local stations..Or they did...

22. You can't really blame the FCC...
After being taken across the country, to such locations as New Orleans and Las Vegas, on leisure trips and vacations paid for by ClearChannel and other broadcasting corporations, the commissioners of the FCC have to do SOMETHING to justify their salaries. Besides, of course, continuing to exist as the most corrupt agency of the Federal Government since J. Edgar Hoover ruled the FBI.

Paul Simon, "Kodachrome".

Nowadays, the FCC would be fining, and EKCO would be suing for trademark infringement...

I had to "cue song past 'crap'." when I was a Dee-Jay...

This is what happens when you replace Engineers on the FCC with Lawyers. Instead of regulators, we get "Technology Cheerleaders" and Arbiters of Morals.....

28. FCC Rules Say You CAN Play Do-Goody Bullshit
I've worked in radio for over 30 years and was just breakin' in when Dark Side first came out...along with that nasty word. Ooh what a controversy in 1973. Many stations played a specially produced 45 version (edited) that had the word cut out, but most FM stations prefered to play the full album version.

This was also the time of Nixon's tapes...including the infamous "explative deleted". The station I worked at was an NPR affiliate (I was in college) and our station aired the tapes with all the dialogue intact. The reason? An FCC rule that exempts "news items and works of art" from any alteration...including the use of obscenities. In essence, shit happenens and if it's removed, it's altering the product or the "work of art"

I know other stations used this justification for decades on playing this and other mild swear words (I could probably pop out a list of at least 100 tunes with some "swear" in it), but for years most have aired very well on radio without a peep (check out your Classic Rock station's version of "Who Are You" (finding in edited version is a collector's item now).

This law enabled TV stations to show the Michaelangelo statue of David (was he circumsized or not??) or that live "slip" in a news or sports event. Thus this latest crap from the FCC goes against their own rules...and most definitely will end up in a court if fines are accessed.

Personally, I'd love to see the FCC go overboard on this, so it can be gutted and re-organized after this regime is removed.

29. You guys are wrong !
The FCC has power over the 7 bad words...this is the only thing they can enforce....all this new shit is make believe...the FCC doesn't make laws...they enforce them

And the word SHIT is not allowed on the radio....for a long time now

This is the one issue you guys should leave alone, Now your demanding to hear the word 'shit' in a old Floyd song

Jeeeeesh...get current

32. Looks like the King James Bible is banned too
"So and more also do God unto the enemies of David, if I leave of all that pertain to him by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall."
"But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?"

It was on a major ClearChannel station. Is ass legal, whereas shit is not?
