Should DU Moderators Censor Classical References?

Well, I just had two posts killed on this board for daring to name a character from Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" in relation to Joe Lieberman's vindictiveness.

So, here's the question to all...

"Is it appropriate for DU moderators to censor (e.g., remove posts) that make reference to controversial classical literature or characters?"

Interested to hear from others.

you were referring to Shylock? Whereever it originated, it is now a racist term--and trying to get around using it as a racist term by saying its from literature would be about the same as if wanted to call Al Sharpton a . . . very bad word that one finds in Huckleberry Finn (America's greatest novel, in my humble opinion), and to pretend some sort of connection.
