Help me shoot this freeper mail out of the sky...
A little background... this is from a friend of my sisters... This exchange started when she sent me that "Assicon" (_|_) mass email that some of you may have seen. So I cc'd everyone asking if "Ass-i-con" is what conservative republicans were calling themselves these days.

Then I get a message from this guy saying that it's librul democrats who called themselves "assicons", blaa, blaa, blaa. I was shocked that my sister could possibly be hanging around such an idiot, so I wrote her back basically saying the guy is a tool and feel free to let him know I said so. She did and I get a message back peppered with right wing talking points and comments insinuating that this person enjoys gutting the environment with the sole purpose of pissing off "tree huggers." Of course I responded - there's no way a jackass like this is getting the last word. Below is the lastest exchange. This putz needs to be smacked down hard. Please help.

Thank you.

----------
As always I have touched a nerve- One of guilt or envy - I can't tell- Its
usually both - The idea that those pesky Republicans have the bond flying
and the intrest rates at the lowest point since WWII - while the hard
working man refinances and saves 2-3% and about 180 thousand on a 30 yr at
100 thou loan he bitchs in the bar at how the Republicans screw him/her as
he gets another 2500 tax credit this year!! Yeah things were SOOOO much
easier when we had 8% - 9.5% mortgages and 9-12 % on car loans -but of
course a party  cant change that only a policy - HMMM wonder whos policy-
and to the Non-military experience comment I am proud to have served 15
years with the 10 Mountain Division - I may have Starry eyed ideals and I
may wave the flag a little harder than other pacifist, but I know to many
women and men that have fallen to make light of there beliefs or ideals-
Anyway I have an idea lets just vote in Hillary Clinton we can satisfy the
women who need a democratic role-model-  you know like Geraldine Farroro /
Susan B Anthony- Yeah hows that dollar doing!    Look I apologize if you
think my tone has been aggresive, but to hear words that slam a Political
Party based upon personal prefrences is uneducated and lame-  I agree that
are several Democratic ideas that I follow daily - I just feel that the
Republican Parties stand on the things that will help my family succeed are
more Proactive the the Donkey Party- And say what you will but when it comes
down to the line it is what best effects my family- So vote your party
straight - I can respect that what I cant and will not respect is the
mentality that a Democrat wears wings and a halo and republicans are the
Devil-  The Socialism in this country was created by Democrats- we are just
trying to deal with it!!!!     Ps- Work for your money-put it away- dont ask
for the free lunch if you have none you go cold , starve and Die- Thats how
things were and believe you me that is how it will return - Unfurtunatly
Like it or not!

1. Just kindly point out...
that the reason interest rates are so low is BECAUSE THE ECONOMY SUCKS!

Greenspan & the Fed dropped rates to record lows in order to combat the Bush Recession. If/when the economy IMPROVES, then rates will go back up to try and prevent inflation.

It's like his argument is "Republicans wreck the economy so that interest rates will be made lower." Hooray!

2. Sad, angry, uninformed

Unless he is very, very wealthy, he needs to take a hard look at the facts.

Interest rates are low because it is the only way to keep the consumers spending money they don't really have. Personal debt is through the roof -- this is the Republican form of prosperity -- it is always borrowed against our children.

It would take a lot of time and effort to educate this man -- you're a stronger person than me if you have the will to do it! :-)

3. ignorant
I didn't even quite understand what he was rampling about. It seems that he got a fat tax break and is afraid that the poor will take it all away.

I know a couple of people like him. They can't see anything but their own little world. And if they are financially well off, or religious right-wing fanatics (or both), nothing can convince them that Bush is bad for America. See no evil...hear no evil...

4. I dunno....this little tiff with the Christian right
...and Dick Cheney may be opening up some holes we knew were there but just never came to light. It's harder to be a fat-cat Repug when one of those "fags and fairies" springs from your loins, isn't it, Dick?

5. A few thoughts...
Mortgage rates began a rapid drop during the Clinton years largely due to his efforts to reduce the deficit. Few experts believe that the current rates can be sustained, largely because of *'s exploding deficit. When rates rise, home values will drop and many will be left with overvalued property. Foreclosures and bankruptcies are at an all-time high. I can't see that he has offered any other information, just the usual ranting. You may want to bring up: 3 million net jobs lost(22 million created under Clinton), the theft of SS surplus to fund tax cuts to benefit the wealthy, skyrocketing health care costs, Medicare bill which is little more than corporate subsidy, etc.

6. "The Socialism in this country was created by Democrats..."
The socialism in this country is at least rooted in the constitution.

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
- from the preamble

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
- from Article I, Section 8

I'm pretty sure that he, as I, would not give up providing for defense, and general welfare seems to be coupled with that in the second part.

7. Please translate it into English first...
...in fact that would be my response: "I can't respond to this because it's some weird idiot-language."

8. Also, it's actually good that he's moved the debate to economics...
...because I think we can always win that argument. I'm at work so I don't have time to really sift through stuff, but this site has a lot of good economic arguments for liberal policies:

10. Here's something.
The low interest rates you discuss began in the Clinton years. He passed an economic plan that NOT A SINGLE REPUBLICAN voted for.
"Clinton's biggest gift to consumers was the sharp drop in interest rates in 1993. Following the President's early drive to lower the deficit, the Federal Reserve cut short term rates while bond traders drove down long-term rates, sending 30-year fixed mortgages from 8.31 percent in November 1992 to 6.83 percent in October 1993. That's the lowest overall mortgage rate since 1971." . This plan led to the longest economic expansion in US history. "After about eighteen months, the 1991-92 recovery ushered in very strong employment growth and the longest economic expansion of the postwar period."<http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/09/news/economy/jobs_model/> Oh yeah, and 22 million new jobs.
