If there is anyone who is "fair and balanced", it has to be Bill Maher! I'm sure it will be a great show! Can't wait to see it.

I'm going to miss this show when it goes on hiatus.

It's by far one of the funniest shows on TV. There isn't another show I can think of that is as frank and intelligent while being laugh-out-loud funny.

During the primary, Maher kept poking fun at Dean. So I'll be interested in seeing whether the two men are prickly towards each other.

i don't think i even know anybody who does, except for my parents (who live a good ten states away). college students don't exactly have a surplus of funds these days with tuition and health care costs out of control.

Meanwhile, Frum can't land a blow. Vidal just reminded Frum he lives in Hollywood, not Italy. He looks quite the fool.

After Frum spouted a whole lot of Repuke talking points about how safe we are thanks to Homeland Security, Bill asked him how come instead of guarding nuclear facilities and whatnot they go after Tommy Chong, harrass abortion clinics, etc.

Yep, I thought so. I googled david frum from canada and found this confirmation. And that sob was trying to give Gore Vidal grief about living part of the year in Italy.

His mother Barbara Frum was a much loved journalist and anchor here in Canada. (She passed away about 20 years ago). Sadly, Barbara gave birth to Satan before she departed. We are certain she is rolling over in her grave now. Tag ... he's your now!

His mother Barbara Frum (deceased) was a very well respected and admired broadcaster on CBC.

However, Frum was trying to diss Gore Vidal by implying that he didn't know what's going on in the US because he lives in Italy. Admittedly, Vidal had a very good comeback. But I'm talking about the pure bile (Hannity' notwithstanding)in trying to take Vidal out by implying that he isn't "American" because he lives part of the year in Italy. It is such a predictable way to debate now that we should always be prepared for the personal attack. There is absolutely NO SUBSTANCE to the right's debate. That's all.

It was an absolutely fabulastic program and makes up for so much of the crap we must endure. Let's try to get Bill Maher to put his show up on the web...delayed maybe. I can't see why HBO would refuse to do that. Some of their shows they can play over and over. But Maher"s show is very specific and wouldn't seem to have a shelf life longer than maybe several weeks. It would be a good way for HBO to bring people to their web site and then perhaps to HBO. Let's see what we can do.

There is a reason why Frum does not live here ... he loathes the democracy Canada (prefers fascism) and we loath his racism and greed. I'm not surprised that he hitched his wagon to the Bushitters.

His "United States" and particularly "The Last Empire" are wonderful models of everything liberal discourse should be: direct, tough, sometimes mean, and often humorous.

Highly recommended stuff.

If you remember the movie "The never ending story" where the kid skipped school and actually felt apart of the world he was reading, this is the adult’s version. I also read "The last Empire" I can’t get enough of Vidal.

They all are great, but this one is a particular fave of mine-"Live From Golgotha". "Kalki" is another great book, too.

On edit-Bill's show was terrific tonight. Particularly liked the exschange between Frum and Vidal-

Vidal-Why did you say that, then? (This exchange followed Frum stating that the aftermath in Iraq is just like the aftermath in Germany and Japan. Which it isn't. This was the first exchange between the two and Frum was an arrogant little snot.)

That's when I first read it and then I passed my copy on. I came to Vidal first for his fiction. It was subsequently that I started reading his essays and political writings.

Looks like I need to call him tomorrow and tell him job well done!

I loved it; Vidal made me feel as if I was alive during 5th century BC. Vidal is tackling BBV seriously I wonder if you have anything to do with it? :smoke:
