Garner was sacked after opposing privatisation in Iraq
"Jay Garner, the US general abruptly dismissed as Iraq's first occupation administrator after a month in the job, says he fell out with the Bush circle after he called for swift and free elections and rejected an imposed programme of privatisation."

Industries?

If the USA gets the "businesses" (read O-I-L) in the private sector, then "handing over" the government to the Iraqis won't bother them at all!

The USA NEEDS this distabilized period to get their financial claws on the oil industry.

The Iraquis can have their country, just not the USA's oil that god mistakenly put under the Iraquis sand!

no?

3. Don't end the day with more enemies

...than you started with! Don't think they took this advice to heart.

This interview is quite revealing. The analogy to the Philippines as a coaling station and foothold in the west Pacific for American military dominance says a lot. The basic outlook of the administration is 19th Century colonial.

There are several angles to American dominance of Iraq and by extension the middle east. There is the corporate and economic dominance, the military dominance with troops and base rights, and then there is the political dominance with the need to establish a security apparatus in Iraq serving American needs prior to the institution of any "democracy" by elections. Interesting that the administration puts everything ahead of elections whereas Garner thought it would be more effective to put it first.
