wore a kerry button at a street festival and got great reaction (in AZ)
i was quite surprised. when i bought the buttons and proceeded to put it on my lapel, my husband said to me, "you're asking for trouble". i thought about it and said, "screw it. they want a piece a me? i'm ready for the bastards. it's time we stood up and be proud".

and you know what? i got such great reaction from people! i was so surprised. i was ready for the obnoxious repukes and had my boxing gloves on JUST IN CASE. but, they stayed away from me.

i kept getting asked where i got the buttons because people wanted one too. a couple people said to me, "you got that right. Kerry's (gonna, must, will) win this year". Another woman said to me, "you're voting for the right guy".

I even passed out some flyers to people to come and join the tucson democratic party. And I wasn't even volunteering for the democratic booth. I just did it on my own. Felt good too.

I'm posting this to let people know that there's alot of like minded people out there that will respond if we just speak up.

1. Here, too
I carry extra bumper stickers and pins in my car because I have been getting asked by many people in my very conservative area where to get them.

Good for you - wear that pin with pride!

7. i'm waiting for the rally signs and yard signs to come in.
i've decided that there are untapped dems in my neighborhood that need signs in their yards or on their windows. ;)

16. I decided
I wasn't going to wait...and wait....and wait...like what happened with the Gore campaign. I went to demstore.com and ordered 1000 for our community. I remember being told at a Dem seminar that every bumpersticker is worth $1000 in advertising fees.

22. cheryl, that's exactly what I'm going to do too!
I'm waiting for the rally signs and yard signs to come in before I go around my neighborhood. I KNOW there are dems here and I want them to be as loud and proud as I am. Yup, it's a great way to advertise, alright.

6. why, hello neighbor!
i'm on the NW side too! i workout at gold's gym--next door to that vile kyle. i figured it would be very conservative there. but i'm glad you said that. now, i'm going to put the button on my gymbag and wear my kerry t-shirt when i go workout.

i'm joining the democratic party of tucson. am going this monday to their meeting. it's at this restaurant on campbell and ft. lowell called desert rose (or something similar to that). lunch is $6.50 and there is a speaker there. don't have the info infront of me, but you can call the democratic headquarters to get the info. i'm interested in volunteering to get the word out get people registered to vote. you should go. i wonder if we have any more DUers here in town?

5. That's cool - I've got this very negative Bush bumper sticker
on my car and it reads:

"Bush Lied People Died Jobs Dried Cronies Ride Environment Fried"

A bit long but I get stuck in traffic enough that I know many have read it. I've had it on for a couple of months now - and not once has anyone given me the finger or a nasty look. I think that in itself is remarkable.

8. love the bumpersticker! I just bought a kerry one today too.
Also, bought a "bushwacked the economy" bumpersticker too. I'm going to go get the magnetic strip as suggested by others on this board. Then I can take it off when I go inside the store and not worry about being keyed or anything like that.

11. That reminds me of a funny story...
This is a good one :)

Back in the glory days of free speach, oh... 'bout 3 weeks ago, I had the following slogans written on my car (a nearly new Subaru Outback) in white shoe polish - much in the same way one might write "Go Team" on a bus window:

Impeach Bush (on the rear side windows),
and
Anybody But Bush '04 (on the back hatch window)

Weeeelll.. I live in a fairly conservative part of the country, despite it's many economic problems. Go figger. So the occasional bird-flippage or head-shake was to be expected. Heck, once - a few weeks before the incident I'm about to relate - someone even stole a bottle of barbeque sauce and wrote "Get Out Freak" and "Commie!" on my car. All in good fun, I say.

Well, at about 5 pm one afternoon, I was working in the retail store in which I'm employed and one of my employees who had just walked out the door called and said "Someone's messing with your car! Come quick!"

As it turns out, "messing with" acutally means "hitting with their truck". Yup. Although my friendly employee was too far away to get a licence plate number, he did get to witness the creative genius of the spirit of disagreement in action. This damn fool actually pulled his car perpendicular to mine in a nearly empty lot, pulled away from it, and then gathered speed to slam into the side doors of my car. It would seem that this was his final act of bravery and intelligent discourse, as we found out a few moments later that he had also stolen one of my wheelcovers (not recovered), kicked the passenger side-view mirror off the door, and STOOD ON MY HOOD and kicked the air scoop off of the hood (recovered, but not salvageable).

No recourse, no way of finding out who did it.

To boot, the only way I can write anything on my car again would be to get a divorce.

Am I suggesting that this will happen to any of you? Of course not - but I thought I'd relate the story just to refresh your understanding of the type of people we are up against - not just in our White House, but in our back yards.

Stand up to this. We have to. This is not the America I want to live in...

Edited on Sun Mar-21-04 12:16 AM by imax2268
and if the conversation of the election comes up...most say they are not going to vote for BushCo again...everyone I meet in the Phoenix area is feeling that way...I just hope it's not a bunch of talk...I hope they back up their words come November...

I just wish more people in AZ would join up on this site and give the rethugs hell who think they know everything...for them it's a Kerry/Dembashing fest going on...

10. the rethug base is even moving away from b*
they are the hardcore, faux news, RW braindead cultists, anyways. no point in arguing with these folks. they will only resort to personal attacks because they have no other option.

i truly think independents and moderates here in AZ are already moving away from b*. i think people are just waking up and no amount of cable news drivel can change that.

it's comforting to hear that folks up in phoenix are talking ABB. I thought that was staunchly republican.

do you think it helped that McCain came out and supported Kerry on defense?

I just hope the campaign gets some of the money. Doesn't matter, though, cause I'll be sending them money anyway.

I am so proud to be working for Kerry and the democrats.

23. Tucson is far more Democratic/left leaning than most of AZ
Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade, but keep this in mind:

Tucson is much more liberal than the Phoenix area, and the Phoenix area contains about 70% of the state's population. People at arts & crafts shows also tend to be more liberal-leaning than the general "let's buy something at Wal-Fart that's cheap amd looks just like the same cheap junk that everyone else buys" crowd. So it shouldn't be surprising that you find anti-* folks at an arts & crafts festival in Tucson.

when you start seeing anti-* folks at Wal-Fart in Phoenix (or better yet, in Mesa!), then you KNOW the *ies are on the way out! ;-)

17. Yep. I think the polls
showing an evenly divided country are complete and utter horseshit.
Bought and paid for. A close race means more revenue for media outlets.

Americans are not completely unaware of the disaster that is Bush & Co.
