Voters' Voices

Residents speak out on issues that brought them to the polls

Sunday, March 21, 2004

Carol Pieck, 83, surprised herself last week. She voted for a Democrat for the first time in her life.

"I've been voting (Republican) forever, but I'm unhappy with the person I voted for last time," she said.

Voting for President Bush in 2000 was a mistake, the Homewood resident said. Voting in last week's primary was a step towards fixing that mistake.

"Bush is a dud," she said as she exited the polling place at the Homewood Church. "I think he is an adult who acts like a college kid. He talks like a college kid, and he walks like a cowboy."

If Pieck symbolizes the increasing number of Americans fed up with a sagging economy and the war in Iraq, Beth Eskildsen of Homer Glen is among many Americans who believe Bush is the candidate more likely to keep the country safe from terrorist attacks.

I take offense to being compared to Bush :)

Glad to have more people aboard the campaign to de-elect the un-elected pResident.

2. What?
If Pieck symbolizes the increasing number of Americans fed up with a sagging economy and the war in Iraq, Beth Eskildsen of Homer Glen is among many Americans who believe Bush is the candidate more likely to keep the country safe from terrorist attacks.

That statement contradicts itself...but then again, does it go along the lines of , peace is war? Bush sucks, he's good?

4. Seniors rock and there are more of them now than in 2000
I suspect Kerry will do well with them. They certainly worry about Social Security, health care, prescription costs than getting blown up by a terrorist.

Also, I believe the WWII generation respects Kerry more for his war service and support of VA rights than AWOL*.

I love a surprise ending.

9. You, GO, Carol!
I think she's wonderfully articulate about Bush, and she's not afraid to admit a mistake or make a change.
