3. I was frightened by the revelations - yes
And I was surprised at how much I came away respecting O'Neill. Now I want to know exactly what they said to him to make him back off the day after.

and it is a common tactic.

I also came away with great respect for Paul O'Neill. I would love to have lunch with him some day.

8. I was scared when O'Neill got scared
as he discovered Dick Cheney undercutting him every step of the way. He'd worked with him for years and thought he knew him well. After observing Cheney's sinister dirty dealing, he began to wonder, "Who IS Dick, really?" That was scary.

19. That was scary
And the part about one of the leaks- One of O'Neill's reports was leaked and Bush made that snide remark that disturbed O'Neill- something about O'Neill being a real "truth teller."

It had me wondering who REALLY had B*shie's ear and if that person was feeding him lies. Did someone tell Bush that O'Neill himself was the one who leaked the report?

F*cking scary. A paranoid boy king, easily manipulated by people w/ less than noble motivations. :scared:

10. what i'm scared about is
how o'neill has disappeared from the media. when asked if he feared repercussions from the administration, o'neill replied by saying i'm old, and i'm rich so what can they do to me. well, it appears they've done something.

11. Learning that the *meetings* were totally scripted was scary.
What should have been working meetings becoming scripted and staged....it's pretty obvious that someone besides the chimp is in charge.

12. Not scared, more suprised...
...at what an asshole Bush was (is?). Frankly after reading the book it seems Bush is not up to the job. Its like having Dan Quayle as president...though i think Quayle was sharper than Bush.

Cheney seemed to be running the show in the O'Neil book. Either that or Bush had "made his mind up" and didnt want to listen to different facts or POVs on issues. ...Bushes "I dont argue with myself" statement...which franky makes him sound like a real doof.

15. Even Marilyn Quayle said it
As Marilyn Quayle bitterly told The Arizona Republic, “the caricature they made of Dan in ‘88 is George W. It’s him. It wasn’t true about Dan. But it is him. ... A guy that never accomplished anything. ... Everything he got, Daddy took care of.”

13. it was hard for me to read
so i haven't gotten all that far. yet, at any rate. there's some really... unctuous sounding language in there. it paints o'neill as too much of a nonpartisan saint. i'm sure it's full of good information... but i hate slogging through bad writing to get it.

17. Bad writing...isn't Susskind a writer?
O'Neill's story with Susskind writing it?

No editor for Susskind - sounds strange.

22. Not scared - I was sickened
Paul O'Neill is a man of principle. It was quite obvious from his accounts and experiences in Bushco that there was no room for someone who wanted to do what was right for the American people. The more I read about this bunch of fanatical lunatics in charge of our government the angrier I get. We can only hope and pray that they will get their just rewards - a one way express trip to HELL!
