Well, I officially live in the State of Insanity (Oklahoma), Terry Nichols
trial began today. He is already serving a life sentence/no parole for the Murrah bombing (McVeigh accomplice) but the compassionate conservatives who infest this state find it necessary to spend 10 to 20 million to try and convict him of murder so they can strap him down and inject poison.

But that's okay...the crumbling bridges, schools and roads can wait.

I really hope I can overcome certain temptations...
:grr:

1. I'm sorry. I lived in Oklahoma once.
and I hope I never have to again. :)

I liked the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge outside of Lawton. That's about it.

3. I'm a long way from Lawton, about 300 miles northeast. In Green Country
as it's called...many lakes, forests etc. Beautiful area, idiot residents.

2. I also once lived in the Sooner State....
And I still keep up with the political landscape there. I'm upset that my once great state is wasting so much time and money on such a pursuit. Oklahoma teachers remain among the lowest paid in the country, poverty and drugs are rampant.... I can sure think of better ways for that money to be spent....

:grr:

Too bad Governor Henry couldn't step in to stop this mismanagement of taxpayer dollars....

4. I'm in Oklahoma too
(Greetings from Norman, which is a pretty fair place to live, if you find yourself unexpectedly living in Oklahoma ;))

I've been trying (not entirely successfully) to avoid the coverage of the Nichols trial, for the same gripes you've listed, as well as the whole challenge of finding an unbiased jury for a fair trial ... one of the news bits that did slip through my forcefield was the statement a few weeks back that several in the jury pool were anxious to get on the jury so they could convict him.

7. Heh, Norman's probably the coolest place in OK. I've spent some time
there, my brother graduated from OU many moons ago...the trial is down in McAlester as you know and it was discovered today that several of the jurors are relatives of the prosecuting attorney. Typical Okla politics (I think we're pretty widely known for being the most corrupt in the nation for decades now)...

Anyhow, welcome to DU! :D
(are you a student at OU?) just wonderin'

9. Norman is pretty cool

I really like the town and I've met a lot of great people in the years that I've been here.

I'm occasionally a student at OU, currently part-time. I got a degree in '98, but I've been going back off and on while my wife was finishing her degree and getting her first year of teaching under her belt (SoonerShankle's earlier comment about teacher pay really hits home for me ;))

Thanks for the welcome to DU ... one of the best things about lurking here over the years has been the opportunity to see posts from other Oklahomans and know I'm not totally alone here :)

On edit: corrected attribution of teacher pay comment (whoops)
