Episcopalians Delay Vote on Gay Bishop (after allegations)
Edited on Mon Aug-04-03 02:47 PM by liberal_veteran
MINNEAPOLIS - Episcopal leaders delayed a vote Monday on whether to confirm the church's first openly gay bishop after allegations involving "touching" and "pornography" emerged against the clergyman, a church spokesman said.

Jim Solheim, the Episcopal spokesman, would not elaborate on the allegations against the Rev. V. Gene Robinson.

Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold was expected to make a statement later Monday, Solheim said.

1. CNN reported that an e-mail was received by the bishops...
of a man claiming "inappropriate touching" by Rev. Robinson SOME YEARS BACK.

My question: If it was inappropriate, why did the individual wait "years" to report this activity?

One step forward, two steps back? I agree with liberal_veteran, something smells.

2. I smell it too
AS a member of my local Episcopal Church, I certainly don't want to see an inappropriate person elected bishop. However, for this to come out so late in the game, one day after the deputies overwhelmingly approved him by a 2 to 1 margin, makes me wonder. Remember, in the world of politics, the conservatives no longer care how the game is played. They only care that their side wins, and when in doubt, smear smear smear. (we'll leave posterity to thank us for it later).

I pray that this will all be sorted out in a reasonable manner.

3. A very stinky smear job
The timing is the most suspicious aspect.

And very typical; plenty of luzers think that all gay men are pedophiles, have these vermin no sense of originality in their hatred?

4. Good old boys
Can't help but remember when Bishop Jack Iker was voted in by the House of Bishops in spite of many protests that the man openly admitted, indeed, was chosen to be bishop in Fort Worth for one reason: he would not allow a woman to be ordained in the Diocese of Fort Worth although the Church had decided 20 years before to allow the ordination of women.
The House of Bishops just could not stand to vote against him, even ultra-liberal Bishop Spong voted for him. It was close and God only knows the amount of arm-twisting that went on but the Diocese of Fort Worth got Bishop Iker and he has been true to his word. He continues to violate the vow he took before God and everyone at his consecration--to uphold the teachings of the Church. No problem. He is one of THEM.
It will be interesting to see how the vote goes for this person. I have a feeling that the same ones who castigated anyone who would dare vote against Iker, are the ones leading the smear against the Rev. Robinson. Once again they will threaten to leave the Church. This time, I hope they do.
