White House transitions
It seems obvious that the Clinton > Bush transition was not handled well, especially with respect to national security issues.

I'm unsure about what sort of protocal or procedures are currently in place to ensure smooth handoffs. Is what we have now enough?

Should Congress somehow step in to monitor future transitions, perhaps with a bipartisan committee to make sure both the departing and arriving administrations are comfortable with how the transition is going?

1. The Bush junta was busy smearing Clinton about...
some keyboards and a candy wrapper left behind. How quickly we forget the twisted priorities of these assholes.

2. The transition was truncated because of the length of time it took...
for the selection of bush by the USSC. It sounded to me from the testimony yesterday, though, that the issue of terrorism was hilighted by the departing Clinton admin even though the transition was shorter than usual.

5. Truncated transition
i think you are correct that the transition was shortened last time. In more normal transitions, there is a formal process and there is funding provided for the incoming administration before inauguration and for the outgoing for 6 months after.

3. Not to mention ...
AWOLs first priority was to de-Clinton everything.

It is no surprise that when boy wonder was warned about terrorism / AQ, that he brushed it aside and gave it the ole "Not Invented Here" attitude.

Everyone knows that an attitude like that does not bring progress, but just the opposite. They ignored established intellegence for their own (what they wanted to hear).

The result of this ignorance and neglegence was 9/11.

Cheers
Drifter

4. It appears that the Clinton staffed did a wonderful hand-off.
Just about everything we could've hoped for.

The problem seems to be that the Bush adminsitration funbled it badly. They didn't think it was important.

Clinton's staff received very little help when they came in. Bush I and his administration basically packed and left and let the clinton administration figure everything out for themselves.
