Did Fineman just try to slime the 9-11 families? (on Hardball)
I came in on the end of his remarks, but it sounded as if he was arguing that the 9-11 families are interested in getting the Commission to assign blame in order to get MONEY from the US government (as well as from the Saudis)!!

I was appalled! Tell me this isn't the newest talking point to discredit anyone who wants the truth to come out...

4. That's not the way I heard it.
He was pointing out that given the "revelations" the families could have a case against the government.

6. Ahh. That makes sense.
Just now Kristin Breitwiser(spelling) was on, being asked about the question of how the original reimbursements to the families was a way of preventing them from suing the government--but not because of the money. If they can't sue, they have no way to bring out the facts that could be discovered in the course of a trial. So they are dependent now on the 9-11 Commission to bring out the facts.

I do remember the issue of the recompense being linked to not suing, but I thought it meant they couldn't sue the airlines (??do I have that wrong?). I think the suit against the Saudis is probably also a method of getting more information/facts out in public.

Maybe I was too hasty--but I don't put it past the * crowd to even try to smear the 9-11 families. Not that it seems a smart thing to try, but they are looking desperate.

7. I'm not sure exactly what rights they had to sign away,
but yes, there was something like that. Suddenly I am very interested in how that was set up and who made the decision to set it up that way. It looks like a perfect ploy for gagging the people with the greatest interest in getting to the bottom of the tragedy. At the time, I thought it was all about being stingy and trying to save money. Now, I think it was CYA and closing down all access to info that they could think of....

9. Yes
and that's the point she made. The gov't bailout of the airlines, also prohibited the families from suing.

10. Mrs. Mariani refused to sign and she is suing, if I'm not mistaken...
so it looks like individuals can still sue if they don't take the money. And Mrs. Mariani went ahead an did it.....the case is still active, but I don't know what stage it is in...
