Irony becomes her, Condi and Bushco, a tragedy:
The Irish love irony and it's two water carriers, tragedy and comedy. Condi has all the makings for a leading role in this administrations place in history. Vetted as a foriegn affairs expert, touted as the resident genius in an adminstration shadowed with the hint of simplicity, Condi was cast as the acceptable, intellectual, internationalist point for the reallignment of the old Cold War warriors. As she came down from her ivory tower in academia, Condi was to provide the Neocons with a new face to an old argument with a new twist - premptive military action. Global war.

In a distinct counterpoint to the other female resident in the Bush administration, Karen Hughes, Condi's agenda did not have to bother with "compassionate conservitism", "uniter, not divider" or any of the other made for domestic consumption platitudes.

It may have been different at some point in her history.

Condi is now about implementing an American global military policy we, John and Jane Doe, know little or nothing about. Sounds like she will not be able to tell us anything about it. Nor will she able to tell us how she came to this point in her life and our national history.

Sad.

I bet she thought different somewhere back the line, teaching at the university, arguing her points, feeling fired up about the possibilities of the American dream.

1. Tainted by Bush
thrown on the scrap heap.

I don't think this is what the NAACP had in mind when they coined, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."

2. The way I see it - oil comes first.
She may have a doctorate, she may be a former professor...but first and foremost she is a former oil company executive and that is why shs's IN with the crowd. They are all about oil. She comes in on the first or second tier of most important oil people running this country and trying to run the world from this White House.

6. I don't find her as brilliant and intellectual as others do.
As a matter-of-fact I see her as being dumb as a post. I do have a criteria to judge and compare. I once worked at a university, and rubbed elbows with the intelligencia, whose papers I typed and conversations I eavesdropped on. When I listen to her doublespeak, it says to me that her words are empty, pompous statements that have no material facts to grab on to.

8. An expert on the former Soviet Union?
Just as the PR machine has hyped Colon so has it done with Ms Rice. She was inept at her job as Soviet "Expert".
Buschco is inept with PR, as well. Sending her out was a huge mistake because she is inept at lying.

10. You hit the nail on the head.
I too used to work at a university and know exactly what you are talking about. So much intellectualism, so little common sense.

7. Not really a great intellectual or academic.
From the White House biography of Dr. Rice:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/nsc/ricebio.html

snip>
Born November 14, 1954 in Birmingham, Alabama, she earned her bachelor's degree in political science, cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University of Denver in 1974; her master's from the University of Notre Dame in 1975; and her Ph.D. from the Graduate School of International Studies at the University of Denver in 1981.

This is not a notable academic career. Her name is associated with Stanford, but she did no academic work there. She was Provost for six years. I have yet to see evidence of her much touted intellectual or academic accomplishments.

9. I heard from a Stanford student that Condi was controversial...
as provost at Stanford, with some students critical of her hiring policies, re. women and minorities. As commencement speaker in 2002, she was protested not only for her role in the Bush administration, but for her tenure at Stanford.
