"Against All Enemies"
Picked up my copy for the book by Richard Clarke a week ago.

I am in Northern California, and I cannot find a bookstore that has it in stock. It is completely sold out.

The WH has picked the wrong person to try and discredit

I believe if they continue to trash Clarke, the agents who were ignored, from the field, and the grave, will come to his defense. The administration has no idea what they are up against if they open this Pandora's box...

3. Perhaps it means that...
All of us are enemies... foreign and domestic... all of us who
oppose criminal mass murder, election fraud, grand theft treasury,
homicide, negligent homicide, manslaughter, treason, and other
typical bush-crime.

4. In his own words in the preface to the book...
...Clarke says he wrote it to protect the US Constitution "against all enemies"--part of the oath taken by POTUS, naturalized citizens, people joining the armed forces, the FBI, CIA and federal bureaucrats.

12. Thanks very much...
...for the warm welcome! Been lurking for a while. Enjoy reading the many intelligent and witty posts here.

Thanks, too, for the info regarding the oaths, which I hadn't bothered to look up--actually, here're Clarke's own words:

In the 1700s a small group of extraordinary Americans created the Constitution that governs this county. In it, they dictated an oath the the President of the United States should swear. Forty-three Americans have done so since.

Is what he says about the POTUS oath inaccurate then?

15. Possibly -- I think we'd all give that man a pass...
on anything, however, wouldn't we? But it sounds, from your quotation, like Clarke is highlighting his belief that a President has a charge to protect the country "against all enemies, foreign and domestic."

16. Yes,
it could be nitpicking, and I couldn't agree with you more. It's the spirit of what he says that truly matters.

7. from the oath of enlistment and office
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
I always thought it interesting that the first loyalty is always to the Constitution, the President is second.

5. Same here in Austin
I'm waiting for new copies of the book. Supposedly the day it came out our local independent book store sold one copy. The day Clarke testified before the commission, it sold out that first day.

I think his apology to the families of 9/11 was extremely moving and that heartfelt and that made me want to read the book.

11. Excellent book
I just picked mine up tonight from Barnes and Noble - it was prominently displayed right in the front. I started it immediately (OK, I started with the last few chapters about bush jr.)and kept interrupting my husband with "You GOTTA read this part." A very powerful indictment of the bush admin.

It's #1 at Amazon, and you should pop over there and read/rate some of the customers' reviews. Good stuff.

21. WELCOME TO DU - to EVERYBODY new on this thread!
DELIGHTED to have you all here. The more of us there are, the more of us will be questioning, and spurring our reps to action (another shameless plug at my sig line - for First Thing Monday Morning) and to DEMAND answers, and to HOLD OUR GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS. I want the adults to be back in charge!!! I guess that's why I vote Democrat.
