“Have you no shame? At long last, have you no shame?”
The current administration witch hunt against Clarke (Condi, Frist, McLellan and the whole gang, threats of perjury and everything) seems to bring to mind the old McCarthy/House Committee on Un-American Activities. (Which, by the way, I was not alive for but read a book about it when I was writing a paper on the subject in junior or senior high school.)

With Clarke playing the role of the principled advocate of truth, and the shrubco administration playing that of the torch wielding HUAC mob.

I am hoping that the whole thing might eventually crescendo in a climactic moment like Welch's question in the title of my post, that can be a rallying cry for the Kerry campaign, and indeed, for our country to emerge from the "long national nightmare" of this administration.
