Los Angeles DU'ers, got a question about the new Progressive radio station
I can't wait till March 31st. I even bought a new radio to listen to at work. Looking forward hearing Randi Rhodes and Al Franken.

Anybody know where it will be on the a.m. dial? It's a.m., right?

1. Hi Miss Bevey!
It will be on the dial on AM 1580 -- if you can get it. It is currently a foreign language station broadcasting from Santa Monica - and has a very weak signal.

I'm working part time in an office in Agoura and have to listen to the radio through earplugs because a couple of freeper idiots keep Rush/Hannity crap on all day, and the walkman is my only escape. Anyhow, I experimented with 1580 the other day and got a lot of static. (Of course the freeper stuff comes in loud and clear.) I hope it works out better for you.

I'm hoping to make it to Doug D's in June, and will be looking forward to seeing you again.

2. Thanks, LibDem!
I'll fiddle with AM 1580 and see if my luck is any better out here in Thousand Oaks. I hope you can make it to Doug's and I will look foward to see you again too!

3. Sounds like
Here in tustin 1580 sounds like a progressive station and a Spanish fighting to be heard through a airplane propeller.

4. You nailed it on the head, Puerco
That airplane propeller you hear is called picket-fencing as one station overlaps with another. I just tried it myself and the signal sucks out here in Thousand Oaks as well. On Wednesday the Spanish will be gone, and we'll hear Al Franken's voice cutting in and out, combined with the same static background. Shitfire, this was my biggest fear.

5. I was afraid of that too.. I have a hard time even picking up the FM
station that Stern is on..

Of course the bible-thumpers and rightwing screamers coome in loud and clear..

I think the station will be streaming, so at least while we are online we can hear it..

It has always burned me up, that in the blue-est of the blue states, we have had precious little to listen to in the car.. I was hoping that this would be IT... apparently not :(

6. Right now, it appears that KBLA doesn't use full power until evenings...

Although it's identified as Santa Monica, the station's transmitters are located near Dodger Stadium in Chavez Ravine.

You can search the FCC details at the following:

8. I live in Culver City and work in Garden Grove...
I know I can pick it up in the car when I'm driving to work. I'll have to ck. my radio at work - keepin' my fingers crossed..I can't wait to give them all of the support I can (I'm emailing everyone in my email address book tomorrow about it - I'm not sure who all knows) that it's happening.
