101. Meanwhile in Freeperville...
They are trying to start a Richard Clarke is a homosexual rumor. Some freeper anonymously said somebody in the know anonymously told them that Clarke was gay, and now they are running with it.

This makes me happy. Clarke could be gay for all I know, or care, but the sign of desperation from the wingnuts is a very good sign.

It is what they do best. They live to destroy people. If I could pick two things the GOP excells at they would be destroying people and Lying not necessarily in that order.

He's defending the earlier briefing after the Time article now (for the umpteenth time).

Clarke is now saying the WH is engaging in character assassination and this should be aboult policies and not personalities.

Sure - but MTP? Meaningless isn't it? It's a TV show...not an investigative commission.

Russert...I dunno...he's paid to say what he says. I assume he says what the boss wants. I liked his interview with Brian Lamb.

I don't see how you interpret my comment as such a huge strike at his credibility?...and you have stretched it to the point of suggesting that I think Clarke should not have testified? Where do you get that...?

92. Its about attitude
We have been inundated by a press willing to let the Bush klan walk all over us. Now when someone from the inside steps forwar and speaks out about the lies they have been perpetrating on the public the media goes into full smear mode. The notion that you put forward that he is grandstanding to sell books would seem to place you on their side of the equation. The anger and hostility towards the lies dumped on us by this murderous administration will naturally find their way to anyone that seems to support their side.

139. It's the low number, combined with no personal info,
plus his comments. Some posters can't resist attempting to bring us over to the "right" side. They believe if they interject some kind of talking point that they believe that it will throw us for a loop. It isn't that you can't disagree with people on this board, it's simply what comes out inevitably that shows they are just not on the side most of us are on.

I once had a low number, and no, I wasn't trusted for a long time (might not even be now). Usually people not friendly to the democratic cause will stop posting. OTOH, some post for a long time. So, there's truly no way to tell by number of posts. However, the posters who are here to either make trouble or to find out what we are thinking and doing are, usually, easily discernible. Of course, we probably have some who have fooled us for a long time. However, they are really fooling themselves. We hope they will learn something on this forum.

BTW, welcome to DU. May you stay long and prosper.

57. Generally speaking
When a person has a gut reaction to someone, it tells us more about the person. Specifically what their preexisting biases are. Clarke does not match with your expectations of how things should be. Thus your mind images him as untrustworthy. You will not accept his words as truth.

None of this means he is wrong or lying. Just that you cannot accept what he is saying.

78. Um
You do know that lots of people are interested in talking to him about what he said. And some of those people are interested in making him look bad. He is standing up for something. He was not interested in saying it under his breath in the privacy of a closet. He wants the world to hear it. Expect to hear him say his peace over and over again. And expect those who he is speaking against to drag him into the spot light and throw mud at him from the darkness.

On August 6, 2001, the President personally "received a one-and-a-half page briefing advising him that Osama bin Laden was capable of a major strike against the US, and that the plot could include the hijacking of an American airplane." In July 2001, the Administration was also told that terrorists had explored using airplanes as missiles.

because of the Monica Lewinsky crap, Clinton was attacked by the press for going after Bin Laden and was vilified as wagging the dog by bombing the Al Queda camps
ergo, all the energy and taxpayers monies that went after Clinton at that time, plus the press going after Clintons BJ, undermined the war on Al Queda and made us more vulnerable then ever

so every Clinton hater out there HELPED 9/11 HAPPEN....AND UNDERMINED THE WAR ON AL QUEDA

It was a victory, complete. At least on this one morning there can be no doubt to anyone who was watching, anyone who has followed these issues, that this Shrub is a lying POS who is a danger to this country.

A line has been drawn in the sand. From this point foward anyone who defends the Bush admin. is guilty of KNOWINGLY aiding and abetting criminal organization.

that I think is absolutely crucial:

He said that no one in the Bush administration is willing to address the issue on its merits . All they do is engage in ad hominen attacks.

That should be repeated over and over every time the administration shills make an accusation against Clarke personally: "Speak to the merits of the issue." Hold them to it.

How can these families, all 40 of them, out of almost three thousand have the gall to complain somebody is going to make some money on a work he wrote and published, when they got the millions we gave them already? I know that sounds bad, but God, how much do they want? Our soldiers are getting killed everyday, their families get, well, I'm not sure, when I was in the Army the death benefit was $35,000.00, I don't know what it is today. What did the victims of the Cole get? What did the victims of the embassy bombings get? What do the victims of drunk drivers get? Not millions and a free college education, I can tell you that.

Now, do I think the families of 9/11 victims shouldn't have gotten what they've gotten? Of course not. We gave them that money. I sent some in myself and blood, too. But, they best not start bitching if somebody else earns money for writing a book that tries to, at least, explain WHY the hell their people were murdered. That makes me sick!

I never watch MTP, since I can't stomach that RNC shill Russert turd.

I did, however, tune in for his interview with Bush* and today's interview with Clarke. What strikes me - aside from the obvious content issues, where I thought Clarke did very well - was how shockingly different in every substantial way Clarke is from Bush*.

Our pRresident was fumbling, unsure, ignorant and creepy on MTP, as he always is. Clarke was straightforward, confident, intelligent and blunt. Shocking that a WH staffer is SO much more intelligent and competent that our pResident.

136. Watching...
Just... absolutely chilling. I've heard him say these things before, of course, but hearing it each time is still shocking. The CIA director and Chief Counterterrorism expert put the govt at high alert and the Bush Admin did nothing. In a similar situation, the Clinton Admin shook out every piece of information to prevent the attacks (which they did!) while "Dr. Rice chose not to do that" - CHOSE not to do ANYTHING. They were "lackadasial"! God help us all.

137. Clarke kept his cool.
Russert kept hammering, but he was calm and cool. Excellent job, Mr. Clarke. Thank you.

140. Watching the replay on NBC 3:00AM
Can I just say that Tim Russert is the biggest dick of a reporter?!?

It's a damn shame that there are no "journalists" anymore.
