Rumsfeld on THIS WEEK: "We didn't go to Iraq."
http://apnews.myway.com//article/20040328/D81JEFLO0.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld insisted Sunday that Iraq was not a distraction for the Bush administration in the days before and after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Rumsfeld sought to counter the contention of President Bush's former chief counterterrorism adviser, Richard Clarke, who testified last week that the administration was preoccupied with Iraq and ignored the threat posed by Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaida terrorist network.

"If one looks at what was done, we went to Afghanistan, we didn't go to Iraq," Rumsfeld told ABC's "This Week."

"It was a highly successful effort and it did not destroy al-Qaida. But it certainly took away their training, their haven, and it certainly destroyed the Taliban and eliminated them from running that country. That's what the president's action was. It wasn't Iraq. It was Afghanistan."

:eyes:

He also meant "I'm trying to distance the administration from the obvious parallels we made between 9/11 and Iraq."

Guess he put down that "prizm of 9/11", eh?

11. why is he saying Iraq wasn't a distraction? who's saying it was?
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 10:53 AM by cosmicdot
it was part of the plan - energy task force, PNAC, Caspian Sea geopolitics as white papered by the GOP's think tanks, revenge, whatever ...

Michael Jackson is a distraction. Rumsfeld's wild-hand movements are a distraction. There are lots of distractions ... Iraq's not one of them.

Is the Media talking about AWOL/desertion anymore?

17. You must read Clarke's book.
on 9/11 and the days following Wolfie was obsessed with Iraq. That is on the back cover. Bushboy wanted to pin it on Iraq without evidence. He wanted Clarke to manufacture the evidence.

9/11 was used as an excuse for Bush to launch his campaign of conquest of the Middle-East and Caspian region.

18. They are spinning like tops. From what I saw this morning Powell is
a much better liar than Rummy. Rummy pauses and stammers
has some obvious tells. I really think that Powell had
the questions beforehand or he is as slick as anyone I have
ever seen. Clarke IS Neo, the one.
