here is the convo, so far

Peter Mansbridge and Bill Maher

PM: We miss you in Canada (No access to HBO)
BM: People are much more media savvy in Canada.

PM: How do you get your guests to agree to come on your show?
BM: We don't get ALL the people we want - John Kerry won't be a guest and GW Bush would not appear in 2000 either.

PM: Politicians have learned the average people look to comedy shows for information
BM: Yes, the news media does not do a good job with information and follow-up questions. Bush got a pass from Russert on the AWOL issue.
A few minutes spent on questions surrounding bush's assertions about the whole AWOL story.

PM: Why so many Canadian guests on your show?
BM: I work around the edges on my show.....not the 80% mainstream. Canadians are foreigners and nonconformists in their thoughts.

PM: An example of "nonconformists in their thoughts"
PM: Iraq.

7. No affiliation to either party

BM: I won't lie - would rather hang out with Dems

PM: You voted for Nader in 2000 - Will you vote for him again?
BM: NO. I regret the Bore and Gush remarks.....I said both parties were the same, We see now they are not the same.
Bush was elected and now I'm sorry about the joking.

I will vote for Kerry!

A year ago if you'd asked me if Bush could be beaten I would have said, "Only if he starts drinking again" Now he says, "Yes"!

Bush may be remembered as a visionary if Iraq goes well, if it doesn't he will be remembered as a liar.

All Americans owe Howard Dean. HD made people turn their heads and gawk....but he turned out to be scary to soccer moms.....and people have a tough time with truth in this country.

9. Tommy Thompson
Bill asks Tommy Thompson, In this country people want Rx drugs from canada but they tell us they are unsafe. Isn't that a bit of a fib? Is Canada really Haiti, brewing up drugs in unclean clinics?? LOL

Thompson says No, not a fib and stands by the gov't talking point, then 2 nights later the whole story exposed it on 60 Minutes. He says we have a real problem with lies from our officials in this country.

11. OH wish I could get Newsworld, too!
Can you imagine PBS (outside of Bill Moyers' NOW) featuring some straight talk like that? I've always thought PBS the US equivalent of CBC, but CBC is sooo much better, methinks.

Thanks for the running updates!
