3. Come on guys CNN a good network...
...as is MSNBC...CBS is probably the most liberal (but much fairer than FOX at least you hear both arguments on it)...and FOX is just very conservative and down right wacky now its election year... Judy is ok, listen to what she says and argues don't turn off at the slightest critisim... a little while ago there was a post saying how how that political annalist likening this election to 1988 was BS and pro-republican, what he was saying was the election could go either way unlike 1992 when by the summer Bush(41) was very much on the back foot... and then there was the idea that Jay Leno was a republican (what!) or David Letterman (!) and even the daily show...

for the record FOX is wackyly right-wing, CBS leans strongly our way but tires to be objective and CNN and MSNBC are generally objective... the networks are not all out to get us!... many in the media are on our side unfortunately we don't have a network as openly partisan as Fox is...

I just saw one of the most despicable displays I've ever seen, with Skankwich asking over and over if the two family members thought Richard Clarke was a liar, an opportunist, manipulative

over and over!

she wouldn't stop bashing CLARKE!

I have it on tape

does that get through your thick cabesa?

wise up!

grow up!

Just saw that awful, disgusting, Bush ass-licking performance, too. Notice how the two family members kept praising him (the woman brought up how the WH delayed his book) and both demanded Condi testify in public. Bravo to those two. Judy, your ad hominem attacks against Clarke don't fool us.

CBS and CNN liberal? That's classic Brent Bozell BS and everyone here knows it.

13. You forget...
... if the networks where this great block of right-wing sentiment (al la FOX)we would never have heard of Richard Clark or O'Neille... we would not have heard that Kerry was doing some things right, that the argument that the pledge should be changed had merit, that Bush was not going to be able to ban gay marriage that perhaps the Iraq war was a bad idea...

Sometimes a news-reporter can seem obtuse at times but thats part of the game... we do not have our version of Fox but we can have a fair hearing on MSNBC and CNN and a little bit of favoritism on CBS... but the networks (with the exception of CNN and MSNBC are fair)... look at MSNBC Mathews and Russet are both Dem's (Mathews is eying up a senate run in PA in 2006 so i hear) and on CNN we have Carville and Sheilds... on FOX we have...er...well...colmes vs about 50 right-wing ideologes... ah well... i did say Fox was wacky...

26. Mathews was a Carter aid...
... then again so we're some of Zell's friends, but they worked for carter because of the GA connection, Mathews did not, he considering running for the senate as a Dem! against Santorum... he was pretty friendly with Dean when he was on last year...he's been tougher with Republicans.... and as for MSNBC go to the website and look at the opinions you may not agree with all of it but be a little open minded... Al Franken doesn't call MSNBC and CNN right-wing and he's the real expert on this kinda thing... the networks might be lent on by the right more heavily than we are able to, thats the thing the right can manipulate the media not because they control it but because they can mobilize to scream foul when ever they want and we Dem's just don't, end result the media fears backlashes from the proactive REPs much more than backlashes from us... its not bias its the fear of aggravating a powerful and well organized group... thats why the right always say the left controls all the networks save FOX... grassroots republicans on other sites and visit think this!... now it may be hard to believe but these guys are not all out to get us... well FOX is but as i said...

Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 02:34 PM by Trajan
But only through the sheer power of that message, nd the forum in which it was offered: ... they now seem to be using their position in the public discourse to channel the vicious Bush insinuations against Clarke ...

But this man is SO fully engaged in his thinking on these issues: he is SO complete in his logical dissection of the opposition's arguments, that even the media sycophants of the GOP Neocons cannot penetrate His damning assertions ....

Clarke is a 21st century Deep Throat: in full panavision-High-Definition-Technicolor-real-time and VERY public display ....

The media cannot ignore the thrust of Clarke's assertions, and have not effectively discredited his message ....

They cannot save Bush from Clarke's broadside by ignoring him or condemning him ...

6. Ummm...Finch...

Jay Leno is a republican.

MSNBC is a total right wing joke.(canceled their highest rated show, Donahue, because they didn't want to have an anti-Iraq war voice on their channel.)

CNN is a right wing joke in this country but they are better at hiding it. Every time I accidentally turn that trash on, they are simply spreading some rumour or talking about shark attacks or some other garbage. It's patehtic, and they are always smearing Kerry.

Letterman is non-political but likes to make fun of how much of an idiot Bush is. The guy is just an easy target and during the recall he could see that Repubs were getting a free pass from Leno so he decided to even it out a bit.

Fox speaks for itself.

I think you, like many others in this country, have watched so much right wing drivel that your concept of what objective journalism is is slightly skewed.

15. That's it in a nutshell
People in this country are so accustomed to the right leaning message of ALL the major media and the incessant propaganda from the right wing that the media is liberal, that outfits like CNN seem to them to be middle of the road.

Fox and MSNBC are undoubtedly rightwing. CNN leans right, as do NBC and ABC. CBS is the only true moderate network and yet people see them as liberal.

And if Jay Leno isn't a Republican, he does a Oscar worthy imitation of one.

28. right wing drivel
"I think you, like many others in this country, have watched so much right wing drivel that your concept of what objective journalism is is slightly skewed."......I strongly agree with that statement. The American Left has no where to go for objective news other than selected print media or the internet. All television and radio in this country has been taken over by the Right. They know that most people are too damn lazy, dis-interested or illiterate to dig deep to find the truth.

... Mathews worked on the Carter campaigns and for other Dem's and yet you say he's a Republican?... surly by your logic he would not be impartianal?... make up your mind? if CSPAN is biased because it is run by a Nixon supporter then MSNBC must be because Mathews worked for Carter as must CNN because Carville is on it...

I don't think either MSNBC or CNN are biased IMHO... CSPAN while dull is quite good, very fair, but your logic doesn't work...

Note/ Disclaimer: I do not believe that MSNBC and CNN are biased to the left because Carville and Mathews are on them i think both are fairly moderate...

67. One word: gatekeeping
The mass media chooses what information to disseminate into the general public. The key is what stories they choose NOT to acknowledge, and there seem to be a pretty strong consensus among the networks in that regard.

I agree, of the news networks, CNN is the most preferable. But that only earns them the title: "best of a bad lot."

17. If you really want objective...
... use the BBC world service but even there there is a slight bias, this time to the left... CBS does lean our way, hell we have Cronkite and that other older guy, the one who really hates Mel...Bill O'Reilly's latest pet nemesis (if you keep track of them, which i don't really)... Wolf doesn't really lean right or left...sorry but he does not... and how can you say CNN is conservative they set up crossfire so our guys win its great Novak is suppose to be so respected but he gets chewed up and spat out by Carville and Co every time!... and as i said MSNBC is objective their analysis is tough but fair for both party's... look at it this way I believe Bush is (i quote geppy) a miserable failure but to just put that view across would 1.) not be fair and 2.) would not make the networks money... so they are going to try and be objective in the case of those who are Dem's (Mathews in particular) they might even have to over compensate to avoid being chastised by other groups (and lets face it the right can be very good at call Black, White) but MSNBC and CNN are NOT out to get us... and Jay Leno isn't a republican he's a friend of Arnold's and lets remember that McGovern's running mate Shriver as member of the Kennedy clan supports him and Arnold is probably more liberal than Jo Lieberman...

MSNBC i think has gotten more objective since Nadler left as Editor in chief. ALSO i think THEY THINK that if there is blood in the water on Bush then they will go there. Its all about ratings/demographics. FOX is so right wing they dont even care to apologize for it. MSNBC and CNN are more middle of the road, but have just appeared to lean right since 9/11 because thats where the money is. ABC is a joke, they are so over the map. and NBC is so obsessed with being non partisan that their reporting is shit (can i say that?). CBS is a better indication of what we are feeling and I dont feel bad about that at all.

...as i said its not that the networks are biased (Well except FOX and may be may be CBS...but no where near as much so as "dear old fair and balanced")... its that republican can mobilize at the grass roots very quickly and "scream blue murder" and make the networks cower in submission... so the networks have to be very careful not to offend... but your right MSNBC and CNN are fairly moderate and FOX as i said is a wacko news station...

If it were not

When Bush said I want to bomb Iraq, the media would not have jumped on the bandwagon and pushed bombing Iraq.

When Bush said those trailers are WMD, the media would not have said see those trailers they are WMD.

When Bush linked Iraq and 9/11, the media would not have said because of 9/11 we are going to bomb Iraq.

Bush and the media are one and the same, bought out by corporate interests.

He's not only biased. He has no problem with censorship of the press. Israel practices press censorship, and Wolf Blizer went along with it for years. Never, ever, ever trust a journalist who was confortable turning his stories into a govenment censor.

CNN as a whole has taken a dramatic right wing turn since ownership was transferred from Turner Broadcasting.

43. Judy Wooruff--Bush cursed her husband big time in her face
She is married to Al Hunt of WSJ. She was at the table with their small child when Bush put on a vulgar drunk-like attack on Al for writing Bush Sr may lose in 1988.

51. Whether she is truly ga ga for Bu$h or just feigns it...
what's the dif? She has me fooled! I am familiar with the incident. Didn't know Judy was involved...and if that is so..it makes it even worse for me. I know she was at CNN prior to Monkeynuts stealing the election but why shill for the fouled mouthed, drunken, mommy-spoiled, coke spoonin cowardly chickenhawk? Shame shame Judy.

57. The bottom line is that you can't PRETEND to be a journalist...
...while taking sides and doing a smear job on your chosen party's opponents. It never used to be this way in the era of the fairness doctrine...when both sides had a chance to speak their minds AT THE SAME TIME. Today's 'news shows' are nothing more than a political monologue for those in power.

- This is not what the free press is all about. CNN and all the other 'infotainment' networks have but one goal in mind: keep the corporate president* in office.

64. totally agree
These nitwits are nothing more than corporate spokespersons who masquerade as 'journalists'.

Will NBC/MSRNC ever really expose the lies that led us to Iraq, since their parent company is making blood money from this war? Will CNN criticize Bush* after he's done so much to benefit them with media consolidation and other favors to corporate giants that benefit AOL/Time Warner? Would Woodruff do anything *other* than trash Clarke and offend the viewing public with Perle as a counter-voice?

Of course not, and anyone who thinks otherwise - that they 'lean left' or 'centrist' - is simply fooling themselves.

59. The only news I ever watch is BBC World News and the CBC (Canadian) news
I also get World Link TV on my dish and talk about different points of view!

But for the most part I look at print media and internet sources.

The mainstream "news" sources on TV are a bunch of garbage, IMO.

Chuck the garbage out.

I hear things on BBC and CBC I NEVER hear on American news channels.

60. Me too (BBC only).
I watched the major networks during the primaries, but that was about it. I only watch BBC news to get informed. I watch the other networks if I want a laugh. They are so RW biased, I can't stomach it.

I get most of my news from print and online sources.

I started hating TV news back in the 90s, during the OJ trial.

62. I like CBC news a lot.

CBC provides the best background info to put stories in appropriate context of any news organization I've seen. It's stories are significantly longer than even BBC, and they use that time to provide important context.

Also, the weekly "Special Assignment" programs with Bill(?) Cunningham are fantastic.

BBC is pretty good, but it just seems to still be pretty obviously a "govenment-approved" voice. I realize it's supposedly independently run, but it still seems to be the voice of the British Empire on some things. It's war coverage was leaned pro-military, and I noticed in the Zimbabwe coverage they really left the context out of why the unlanded were so upset and running the land-owners off their farms. I don't agree with the methods the dictator chose to use, but only CBC told me the whole story relating to this. It took CBC's coverage to point out the statistics there had been practically no transferal of property to the unlanded people of Zimbabwe since the Zimbabwe days as apartheid Rhodesia. Whites still owned 97-98% of land in Zimbabwe in the 90's. That's VERY significant, and shouldn't have been left out of the BBC coverage.

63. Pro Military!
... the BBC is nothing of the sort... in fact an independent government inquiry in the UK condemned the BBC for being too biased in its coverage of the war and for criticizing Tony Blair's government on evidence that was latter proved to be false... i like the BBC and am in the UK at the moment but it does lean mildly to the left...

Oh and i was recently talking to this republican i know over the net and he was saying how he See's the BBC as a lot less "liberal" than CNN... know i disagree with this guy on a lot of things but if you want a republican position on this there you go...
