Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 05:08 PM by trumad
She also said that Condi is the bomb. She may be right I'm not sure. And she she also said that the Tax cuts are right for America and that it will generate new jobs. She might be right about that one too. Plus she feels that there will be WMD's found within the next couple of weeks and I hate too admit it, but I thinks she's on to something.

I am starting to think she may be right about a lot of Republican policies and that the "Democrat" Policies may be wrong. I really wish she could post her thoughts here about how bad Democrat policies are but she will get banned if she does so.

SO..I'll come in and speak for her because I belong to the Democrat Party.

The republican way is to deny facts and postulate conjecture.

10. Republican policies are good for business
To be specific. They are good for the corporate entities that comprise business. They are horrible for people. They are destructuive to compassionate society. And they are about to turn this world into a new global fuedal kingdom.

Yes their plans make sense from a Social Darwinisitic stance with Corporations being the defining factor for survival. But that is the very problem. Some time ago we forgot that the Government is about people. The notion of running a government like a business completely misses the point of government. It is about us. We the People. Not we the profit margin.

When the focus becomes a single minded pursuit of increasing profits for a select few in the hopes that they will let us lick the crumbs off their floor we become enslaved to them. Our needs are no longer the focus and become increasingly lost.

You need to keep better control of your information.

For the record, Condiliar is an incompetent stooge. Bush*'s tax cuts have nearly bankrupted the country and haven't produced any real benefits for the economy. If WMDs are found, BushCo will have planted them.

I am really thankful she cannot post her "thoughts" on how bad Democratic policies are, because I'd hate to have to kick her ass with the facts--something I'm sure she is totally unfamiliar with.

30. Don't be so hard on us DUers
Everyone has a right to their opinion.

I wonder: how does your wife respond to Clarke's request that all relevant documents be declassified including all of his email correspondence with Condi and her responses? AP reports that Colin Powell supports the declassification. If Clarke had something to hide like he was lying, his request makes no sense.

Her comment about WMDs being found in a few weeks is also curious given that David Kay who knows more on the subject than anyone else, says that they do not exist.

As for jobs and tax cuts, Bush promised that the first huge tax cut would create over a million jobs (that was almost three years ago) and he said the same about his second tax cut. Neither has happened. The facts to date suggest that the relationship between tax cuts and job creation is weak to nonexistent. Why would corporations take tax savings and create more jobs with them, given the huge productivity gains they are achieving with their present employees?

I could go on, but that's some questions for starters.

53. for "wifey" --Reagan's Liberal Legacy

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0301.green.html

January/February 2003

Reagan's Liberal Legacy
What the new literature on the Gipper won't tell you.

By Joshua Green
------------------------------------------------------------------------

...At the outset of his first term, Reagan's revolution appeared to have unstoppable momentum. ...But after his initial victories on tax cuts and defense, the revolution effectively stalled. Deficits started to balloon, the recession soon deepened, his party lost ground in the 1982 midterms, and thereafter Reagan never seriously tried to enact the radical domestic agenda he'd campaigned on. Rather than abolish the departments of Energy and Education, as he had promised to do if elected president, Reagan added a new cabinet-level department--one of the largest federal agencies--the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Though his budgets requested some cuts in some areas of discretionary spending, Reagan rapidly retreated and never seriously pushed them... By Reagan's second term, the idea of seriously diminishing the budget was, to quote Stockman, "an institutionalized fantasy." Though in speeches Reagan continued to repeat his bold pledge to "get government out of the way of the people," government stayed pretty much where it was.

...It's conservative lore that Reagan the icon cut taxes, while George H.W. Bush the renegade raised them. As Stockman recalls, "No one was authorized to talk about tax increases on Ronald Reagan's watch, no matter what kind of tax, no matter how justified it was." Yet raising taxes is exactly what Reagan did. He did not always instigate those hikes or agree to them willingly--but he signed off on them. One year after his massive tax cut, Reagan agreed to a tax increase to reduce the deficit that restored fully one-third of the previous year's reduction. (In a bizarre bit of self-deception, Reagan, who never came to terms with this episode of ideological apostasy, persuaded himself that the three-year, $100 billion tax hike--the largest since World War II--was actually "tax reform" that closed loopholes in his earlier cut and therefore didn't count as raising taxes.)

Faced with looming deficits, Reagan raised taxes again in 1983 with a gasoline tax and once more in 1984, this time by $50 billion over three years, mainly through closing tax loopholes for business. Despite the fact that such increases were anathema to conservatives--and probably cost Reagan's successor, George H.W. Bush, reelection--Reagan raised taxes a grand total of four times just between 1982-84.

Reagan continued these "modest rollbacks" in his second term. The historic Tax Reform Act of 1986, though it achieved the supply side goal of lowering individual income tax rates, was a startlingly progressive reform. The plan imposed the largest corporate tax increase in history--an act utterly unimaginable for any conservative to support today. Just two years after declaring, "there is no justification" for taxing corporate income, Reagan raised corporate taxes by $120 billion over five years and closed corporate tax loopholes worth about $300 billion over that same period. In addition to broadening the tax base, the plan increased standard deductions and personal exemptions to the point that no family with an income below the poverty line would have to pay federal income tax. Even at the time, conservatives within Reagan's administration were aghast. According to Wall Street Journal reporters Jeffrey Birnbaum and Alan Murray, whose book Showdown at Gucci Gulch chronicles the 1986 measure, "the conservative president's support for an effort once considered the bastion of liberals carried tremendous symbolic significance." When Reagan's conservative acting chief economic adviser, William Niskanen, was apprised of the plan he replied, "Walter Mondale would have been proud."
