How the hell does bu$h stay up in the polls?
The worst President in the history of our country. A man who lied to the country and started an illegal war. A man who ignored the terrorist threats. A man who has run down this country in the eyes of the world. A man who has squandered the federal surplus and now has a trillion dollar deficit. A man who lost 3 million jobs. A man who completely disrespects the environment. A man who has not done the right thing a single time during his years in the White House.
That man is STILL up in the polls. Have we really been dumbed down that much??? Are we really so ignorant a people???

1. I don't think he does
I think the 50/50 thing for Bush and Kerry is as fake as the %5.6 unemployment. I simply cannot believe that many stupid people live in America.

12. He has dropped in all but 2 of the 30 months since 9/11
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 06:27 PM by TruthIsAll
His numbers have dropped in 28 of the 30 months since 9/11. In addition, much anecdotal evidence points to accelerating erosion in Bush support.

Will his job approval numbers be kept frozen at 48-50% from here on out? And even given an artificial boost if he gets Osama or plants WMD?

Did the Republican pollsters get the word from Rove to stop the bleeding? Can they be trusted to tell the truth? After all, their counterparts at Fox, NBC, NYT, CNN are constantly whoring for Bush. Why should the pollsters be any different?

If Bush's long term job approval trend were to continue, he will be at 40% by Sept. With an average rating that low from 11 different pollsters, there is no way Diebold could get away with stealing it for him. It would be too obvious. There is only one way they can steal it - if Bush is close to 50% come Nov.

Can the American people be duped on such a massive scale? Because that is the only way the whoremedia can keep Bush in the WH.

My feeling is if Bush is over 48% after the July Dem convention, then that will mean.....

20. You won't find that 50% on this message board
You'll find them in small town cafes and barber shops. They see Kerry as another college boy Yankee and those folks always made them feel like dumb hicks. Bush is one of the folks, you know, he talks their language, and he would never make them feel dumb.

The only way to whittle this number down is by showing what Bush really IS, a rich Connecticut preppie who got everything in life handed to him by a rich Yankee family and who is only faking being a folksy Texan.

6. Unfortunately, Yes.
Those hot button "wedge" issues are about all they have time to digest, because they're too busy worrying about day to day life. Dealing with family life, work, personal crises...all combine to make it tough to listen to more than soundbites.

Republican ideas, especially when tethered to the Church, are easy for them to understand. Most folks are relatively simple in how they look at life, and don't really want to deal with more than what's on THEIR plate.

Folks get a whole lot more worked up about local zoning ordinances, water bills and income taxes than they do about Weapons of Mass Destruction, or the lack thereof. Most people don't want to know the true nature of our government, because blind faith in "American Values" and the thought that the President "cannot tell a lie" are essential myths to their lives.

7. Lots of rumor that the polls are fixed. They only interview
1000 people. Some of the folks here that got calls say the questions are rigged or they hang up if you're too negative on Bushco.

Another thing they usually don't show are the questions and the order they are in. That makes a big difference.

Also is interpretation of the answers. Today there is talk that 70% of the people had not opinion change of Bush because of Clark. This implies that Clark isn't doing much damage. However, if you hated Bush before, and you're opinion changed, that you would say you're opinion hasn't changed.

19. 1000 people is enough for a 3% MOE. That's not a problem.
The question is: who are they sampling? Is it biased? Does it truly reflect the population universe or is it weighted for pro-Bush voters?

We have no way of knowing the methodology. They could very well be rigging the polls to make Bush appear to more popular than he is.

If his poll numbers stop declining, even after all the negatives (Clarke, Plame, Medicare, etc.) coming out and he stays near 50%, we can assume that the election will be fixed.

9. I think it's partly because
the people on Fox News sit around all day, every day talking about what a manly man he is and villifying or making fun of all the girly men who say bad things about him, and people like my mother believe them because they look like nice people and they pretend to share her beliefs.

I had so much fun ripping that liar Bush and knowing it would count in the next one. I even made the woman on the other end of the phone laugh. One question she asked was "How would you rate the Presidents overall job? Great. good, fair or poor."

I replied, "Do you have anything lower than poor?"

if those of you who are so critical of polls that you are going to simply write them all off as propaganda tools, then if i ever see any positive polling numbers i'm going to equally write them off as well.

when kerry wins, any and all polls will be written off as propaganda for that administration as well.

most of the major polling companies are incredibly accurate when it comes to trends. looking at one poll won't do anything, but when set side by side with other polls, very accurate trends can be seen. Like it or not, this country is split 50/50 on so many different levels that it is assured to show up in these poll numbers. every election is just a matter of pushing outliers and marginals to one side or the other.

I did. I voted republican all my life. I am embarressed to say I voted against Bill Clinton twice.
I saw the light in 1998. My first vote for a Democrat was Al Gore. In 2002 I even named my first born beautiful baby girl Chelsea. If you told me I would do that before 1998 I would have laughed hysterically.
It took me a long time to see through all the spin. If I can change-anyone can.

'Divided' as in: "In his 2002 State of the Union address, President George W. Bush* simplistically divided the world in two: Those that agree with how the United States fights the War on Terror, and those that support terrorists."

not

'Dived' as in: "After being exposed for the most dangerous fraud the United States had ever seen in its 200+ years of history and one of the most dangerous in modern world history, former Pres. George W. Bush* dived headlong into the Potomac river, rather than be taken into custody under charges of treason."

You don't really think the great public actually follows politics? When the polls showed that 70% of the public thought Iraq was responsible for 9-11, I gave up giving the public any credit. It's as though Bushies hypnotized 70% of the public with the bandwagon not- stop carnival show.
