22. I looked on FR and I didn't see a call to Freep this poll
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 03:11 PM by Mike Daniels
Doing a search for "freep" didn't turn up a link to this poll. Perhaps I missed it but their search engine is pretty good.

The Times is a pretty conservative publication so it's possible the results aren't being manipulated from outside.

a link looking for the quote
"Truth a rare commodity often missed"
Where it originate could or could no be important, but this guy seems to have a little bit of handle himself (not that ever body else does not also have theirs)

It all does seem so funny, when everybody compares notes others get so fearful:scared:

http://www.rinfret.com/life.html#anchor46605
http://www.rinfret.com/truthburden.html
(snip)
I have attended meetings from the beginning to the end and then heard and read versions of the meetings which I could not recognize as the one I attended. No one could define the truth or recognize it in any form!

Written reports of meetings tend to bear little resemblance to the actual meeting. Directors minutes are notorious for this flaw! The truth of the meeting is frequently just not there! Dissatisfaction with individual performance is coined as "desirous of another challenge".HA!

We all have legitimate lapses of memory. These people may want to read some quotes about memory!

There are people who do not want to hear or know the truth because it upsets their personal agenda.

The truth makes many people very uncomfortable because it may fly in the face of popular "knowledge".

Some people have no regard for the truth and consider that those who live by it to be suckers, naive or stupid or all the above!

Truth tends to make life difficult. Who is really willing to admit to bias, prejudice, hate, lack of information, errors of judgment, stupidity, rudeness, emotionalism, sexism, dishonesty and thievery?

People more than not lack the education, upbringing, exposure, knowledge, information etc.etc. to know or even recognize the truth. Who, in the U.S.A. knew about the Nazi holocaust in 1941/1942/1943/1944? We are inundated with television, radio, telephones, newspapers, magazines, hype rags and gossip all of which tend to be highly inaccurate and horribly misleading. It has been called a "communications explosion". It is not. It is an inundation of the senses! We are so busy listening and watching that our ability to separate the wheat from the chaff is almost non-existent. Listening has to be as selective as watching.

Truth is often missed in the pursuit of so-called information. Information too frequently goes down the wrong trail. Mussolini made the trains run on time and for that he was applauded. Hitler brought full employment to Germany in the 1930's and Winston Churchill in the U.K was almost alone in realizing what Hitler really stood for! Neville Chamberlin met with Hitler and proclaimed "peace in our time" just before war broke out. The enlisted men at Pearl Harbor who spotted Japanese aircraft on their radar screens were ignored because it was impossible! Truth is too frequently ignored (or scoffed at) because it upsets our predilections and because truth is obscured in a cloud of misinformation or intentional disinformation.
