Folks I just talked with a big shot civil rights atty in DC
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 12:10 PM by Mari333
he said its dangerous as hell right now...hes representing tons of people whose civil liberties are being taken away in droves..including military people who are being abused and taken back to Iraq with horrific medical conditions
he said that things like the horrible precedent setting case in Louisiana where the 4th amendment has been thrown out, and many other cases attacking the Constitution have been thrown out, are causing him a great deal of worry
He said if things heat up and Bush steals this one, his office (big shots) will have to close down and that we can kiss the Constitution goodbye.
He said, if you are out there talking to people TELL THEM TO CALL YOUR DEMS AND DEMAND THEY BECOME COHESIVE AND DEMAND IMPEACHMENT
he said the dems are sitting on their hands.
so dont get lazy please lets call our senators and congresspeople and demand impeachment,,,email them to get cohesive..and start coming out and demanding answers about the illegal war in Iraq..
edit to add: anyone have a list of names and numbers of Dems who supported the war? need them

1. The timing of it all means that a call for impeachment won't go
anywhere...

There isn't time before the election and the election is a better use of time on the airwaves, which is at a premium on right wing cable. But, I think 'some' Dem politicians can and should voice it.

9. ex's? he mentioned the fact that he goes and watches the
supreme court every day and he sees very little light at the end of the tunnel as we all wish their was
and he also blames it right smack on the bought and paid for news media and the dumbing down of Americans.
He said we are at a crossroads, and if WE the people dont fight back, we are doomed for a long time. So we need to get off our asses even more and call your Reps and Senators and demand demand demand demand demand they hold Bush acoountable..Repubs too! demand demand demand demand demand the lies are exposed demand demand demand demand

3. The fruition of the "second sorrow" as outlined by Chalmers Johnson
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 12:15 PM by IrateCitizen
Second, there will be a loss of democracy and constitutional rights as the presidency fully eclipses Congress and is itself transformed from an "executive branch" of government into something more like a Pentagonized presidency.

From The Sorrows of Empire by Chalmers Johnson, page 285.

But then again, didn't a similar thing happen during the transformation of the Roman Republic into an Empire over 2000 years ago? We all know how that one turned out. :scared:

4. From 9/12/01 on
it has been the single-minded goal of the Bush Administration to expand executive powers and suspend the constitution as much as possible.

5. It's been going on for some time -- they only accelerated it
The last time that the President asked for Congressional authrorization for war was FDR right after Pearl Harbor.

Since then, the US has been embroiled in countless military adventures under both Republicans and Democrats, none of which have been declared as war by Congress.

James Madison was quite explicit on the reasoning behind placing powers to declare war SOLELY in the hands of Congress. America chose to ignore that warning, at its own peril -- as now is becoming abundantly clear.

Laying this phenomenon at the feet of the current administration is addressing a mere symptom while ignoring the disease.

7. Kerry isn't going to be a help there.
He seems to think he'll be more noble about the use of power.

Getting him in won't be the end of the struggle.

6. i don`t think they will give up power
the election will be rigged and bush will still be in power. it will take years to restore democracy to the united states, it will happen but not in my lifetime, sad to say but i hope someday my children will live again in a democratic society...
