Warning... rant about Air America ahead...
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 09:51 PM by rockymountaindem
Garofalo and her co-host were just ripping all over Repubs. They pointed out that all the good things we have in the US today are a result of liberal reform. Dissed the 50's, Trent Lott, etc.

I can't believe that this is actually on the radio!!! YYEEEAAARRRHGG!!

In your face conservative media. People are out there speaking the truth now. Booh yeah. What are the conservatives going to do now? Before we could only hint at the truth in the mainstream media. Now there's people out there actually spewing facts all over the place.

I think the conservatives must be very worried tonight.

On edit:
I'm also impressed with the advertisers: Auto-Zone, McDonalds, Benadryl, the Navy, Tyson Chicken, PSAs, etc. I think that's a good sign. These companies are putting a lot on the line in terms of boycotts with hard-core conservatives. If it were all "alternative phone books", legal buds and 1-900 numbers I'd be pretty disappointed.

22. I thought she was...
too easy on that FUCK. I'm sick of the Naderites coming around telling me I need to listen to Nader's message. He's not worth my time. This is, after all, DEMOCRATIC Underground. If you like Nader and his message, pony up the cash to launch NADERUnderground.com and leave me the fuck alone.

24. Oh God......
Nader is such a bore. Here's a guy who's never been married, lives in an apartment,no kids, never owned a car,and doesn't even have a life "partner"...at least I've never heard of any. Can you imagine this weirdo living in the White House? I can't.But the biggest thing I have against him is he is in bed with the GOP. They've sure have taught him how to snooker a lot of people...something they are the masters of.

15. I didn't at first
I guess we all expected a slick Rush Limbaugh like liberal show. However that's changed for me as the day wore on. I getting such a kick out of hearing the truth coming from my radio I can forgive the first day f**k-ups. All they got to do is tighten up the presentation, keep the jokes and parodys coming, and then add some sort of heads up for actions to take.

Hey, when am I gonna hear a Moveon.org commercial on AA?

3. The 1950's weren't all bad
We had a thriving middle class, good paying industrial jobs and nothing near the kind of gap between rich and poor that we have today.

10. It's a complicated story. In terms of middle class opportunity
and income distribution it had a lot going for it. It's possible to progress in some areas while regressing in others.

16. No No No! A common myth
Read David Halberstam's The Fifties. It was a very complicated time that mixed great opporunity with sexual repression, racial injustice, and the stirrings of multiple types of liberation. History isn't a story of simple progress or regression: it's the story of both at once.

18. It's amazing

How a lot of the RW points to the 50's as their model of a "perfect world". I know they are nostalgic for McCarthyism and an America before the Civil Rights Act. But what gets me is the radical difference in the economic models between now and then. Unions were in their heyday, unemployment was way down, things were Made in the USA and families had what they needed.A stark contrast to the feudalistic society they are trying to create for the 21st century.

23. I liked that she made the disticntion between
old time Conservatives and the new "metal" conservatives. They fleshed it out quite a bit and took it into the Bill M. interview. So she wasn't over the top.

What's been so great about this today is that they could discuss there thoughts without having to take defensive postures against hyenas like Hannity. It was beyond refreshing!

They aren't promoting the liberal message. They're just ranting. They dis their own message by laughing at what they are saying as if they are being sarcastic.

They have no credibility.

It's all "Did you hear what Brand-A did to Brand-B? Oh my god, they are so awful!"

Do these people talk about what they believe in? Is that too intellectual? Why should I be drawn to their causes?

Having known people who worked for Disney, the company is one of our *secret allies* in a way.

People don't go to theme parks under threats of terrorism - so peace and prosperity is a good business decisions for them.
