Bush demands higher approval ratings
-PR firm hired to engineer large-scale campaign. Sets likeability deadline of October 1.

(Washington) Gone are the days of the Bush administration's astronomically high approval ratings. In light of an unglamorous descent the Republican leadership is in full-blown damage control.

Politicos have even gone so far as to hire a New York public relations firm to meet Mr. Bush's October 1 deadline to make people like him more than they apparently do now.

To the public-at-large, Bush appears to be repeating some of the cultural disconnect that plagued his father's presidency. One press corps member asked if the current Bush administration "would favor laws prophylactic to accounting firms providing other services to clients they audit".

To which the president responded: "I think it's important for those of us in a position of responsibility to be firm in sharing our experiences, to understand that the babies out of wedlock is a very difficult chore for mom and baby alike. ... I believe we ought to say there is a different alternative than the culture that is proposed by people like Miss Wolf in society. ... And, you know, hopefully, condoms will work, but it hasn't worked."

Perhaps the head-shaking dismay this response illicited among the press only echoes tremors undermining the president's appeal to many Americans. The latest Time/Newsweek poll asks if the president's remarks are credible. Responses suggest that many Americans have begun to divert their wholesale attention away from President Bush and focusing on more banal subjects. Most notably: the existence of wilderness legend, Sasquatch.

Marc Racicot, chairman of the Republican National Committee, has hired Biller Communications of New York to fashion a publicity campaign that promises to deliver the approval ratings Bush has demanded from the governed.

"The first few weeks of the image makeover will focus on building a new identity for the president," says project manager Melody Johnston of Biller Communications. "Our research shows that when President Bush opens his mouth, the American public instantly thinks of Sasquatch. Our first task is to get past that."

Today I saw him attacking a woman who spoke on behalf of Kerry.. She was very weak.. they better get some aggressive spokespeople..and SOON..

Their machinations do not always work out well.. remember Charlotte Beers???

2. That WEAK person is Kerry's campaign manager!!!
I didn't know that until then. It's Jean Saheen (sp.) of New Hampshire. Where is that woman that took over in Iowa and pulled him up out of the pits. I hope the title was wrong, but they said it was Kerry's campaign manager. She has got to go.

4. Mary Bet Cahill is running Kerry's
Campaign. She is a very tough lady and will bring him through. Bush doesn't know how to handle this mess he got us into and it will become worse as time goes by. i expect that by July and August his poll numbers will be very low and get lower. He will throw hissy fits all over the place and will lose the election. You heard it here.

5. Sally---I was just going to ask this....I wondered where Mary Cahill
was because she was the one that took over and brought him the Iowa victory...Shaheen was just the campaign head in New Hampshire. BUT they did introduce (caption under, whatever) that Shaheen as she faced off with the Repuke Campaign Chairman was THE Kerry campaign chairman. Does anybody no for sure which is what??? Are you sure Mary is still around (he would be friggin' nuts if not? Please someone, is there verification (Jean would be a total disaster!)

3. Bush's Propaganda Machine already at work
I didn't sit down to watch the whole show, but on CNN they were discussing recent polls which show Bush climbing a few points. The White House, of course, claimed it has "nothing to do" with the negative (and false) ads they've been running against Kerry for the past few weeks. Spinning away...

6. that's where they just beemed at Rove calling Schneider this a.m.
I wonder if he also included: Look Bill, you will spin it our way or you will be unemployed. Actually for him to so obviously call makes me sense they are rattled over at the big White House.
