Help....I am having a hard slog about some stuff
I never thought repudiating the Republican party would be such a chore. Some people who I used to consider friends go out of their way to avoid me, and others are openly hostile. When I opined that if two gay people wanted to marry, I would fail to see the harm to me or my country, I honest to God was almost assaulted. I just kept egging the dude on, but I remembered that I had just had oral surgery and had over 100 stitches in my mouth. I punch in the face would have been catastrophic, so I laid off. But the stitches are out now, he he. I put an Edwards bumper sticker on my car, and it's been egged. No damage, but I think that it's more than a coincidence.

It is now crystal clear to me how far extremists will go to silence those who do not tow the party line.

I have been explicitly instructed that I may not view DU or Buzzflash while at work. I can understand not making posts, as that could be considered a form of chatting. I didn't post, just looked at posts and read articles. I also studied. But now, Das ist verboten!!! I'm sure in just a matter of days they will be filtered and off-limits. No one has said anything when I peruse Free Republic, however. Another very strange coincidence.

I just want to thank you guys for being here. You help keep me sane and most of your posts really lift me up emotionally after a long day in the neocon world I work in.

Had to get that off my chest. I feel better now.

1. We must all hang together...
..or most assuredly we will all hang separately.

Sometimes the words of our founding fathers resound. I'm glad this place exists as well.

2. Hey..sounds familiar.
Fortunalty I dont talk poltiics at work, but I can really sympathize living in a 9-5 right wing world, and having DU around as sort of a lifeline to a community of likeminded folks (more or less)....even if its a virtual community.

3. Where do you work? Public or private company?
Most companies don't allow surfing during work hours, regardless of the site visited. However, I work in education, as a professor, and my surfing is not a problem. I'm not sure I could go back to work somewhere where my surfing was monitored.

4. Always remember that there really are more of us than of them.
They just have bigger mouths, more vitriolic rhetoric, and vote more consistently.

11. It doesn't seem like it at times
And that frustrates me as much as anything. I just don't see how a rational person can objectively look at Bush's record over the last three years and think it has been good for the country. It just baffles me.

Wow, man - don't let the freeper-types get you down
Inside they know they are on the wrong side of history...and that pisses them off, but it's a mute impotent rage! Most are all talk, so they have to do things like vandalize, in short, they are cowards.

14. chin up feller
you're gonna have to forgive me, i'm gonna try to put together somethin' deep (or deep enough, for these purposes) while listenin' to the majority report ;-) but i think we've all been there before, anyone who's chosen to stand up and distinguish themselves like that, in various ways, some of us a lot more than others, but it's generally unavoidable entirely.... you're just kind of getting itroduced to it.

but you're fighting back just continuing on.

i generally don't like to get into a "we're right, they're wrong, neener neener" type of thing, 'cause that's what they do to us, and there's really not much substance to it anyway (which is why they revert to that more often).... but i'd generally say, that you know you're doing something right, when you're either pissing off all the 'wrong' people, or riling up all the things that you really believe inside are wrong *about* certain people.....

15. Go to The Lounge and talk to the tech gurus there.
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 09:43 PM by kaitykaity
There's a way to hide the pages you're visiting, or a way to get to them indirectly, something like that, to where you can fool your IT department.

At least I think there is, but I'm not sure what the words are--if you're motivated to do this, I mean.

Welcome to our world. Question: I hope this is not offensive, but what happened to you for your blinders to come off? If it's okay to call these people you're dealing with blindered? Maybe you can help us do for them whatever happened to you? We need as many of these people as possible to become like you. An x-g.o.p.er.

16. Here's why...
I posted this when I first found this wonderful site. I've come to change my views on some other issues, like gay marraige, for instance. Two tears ago, I would've been all in favor of an amendment to ban it. But this is what got the ball rolling for me, so to speak.

17. Yeah, you made a big splash when you arrived.
I remember that.

It's a distilling process. Distill what did to you to 25 words or less. One sentence. "The blinders fell off my eyes because . . . " Then go and rescue a favorite friend.

That's all I was thinking.

I talk to people all the time. Some people have been generally respectful and inquisitive and wanting more info (especially about the Veteran's stuff), but mostly get vitriol and rhetoric. *sigh*

So that post really made a splash, huh? Cool.

19. Every convert is a big deal here.

I think people started yelling at you, "yeah, we know you're new. And???????"

Follow up with the people who are respectful and inquisitive. Drop clues, hints, figure out their doubt, then lead them to more information from places they will trust. For example, my best friend is a Republican, and she would have none of my "bush stole the election" mantra.

But her husband is a high-end tech guru who has been out of work for two-plus years, and when I started sending her stuff from the Wall Street Journal about job outsourcing, she opened up to me, and is now ABB.

See?
