Someone explain this to me - WTF does it mean to be "pro-gay"?
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 02:50 AM by Doomsayer13
Some RWinger on TV was going off about how such and such candidate can't win becuase she's "pro-gay". And I think to myself, what does that mean exactly "pro-gay"? I think if these religious bigot freeper types actually stopped and thought for a second they may come to the same conclusion that I did - that label is absolutely rediculous. Doesn't "pro-gay" equate to being pro-people or pro-tolerance? Isn't that a good thing? Hell, in that case I'm proud to be pro-gay!

1. It's fun deconstructing cons.
Yes, just think of him as anti-gay, which is the obverse of "pro-gay". It's like "compassionate conservative" which suggests that, generally, conservatives are not compassionate. It's great.

4. Yeah, that is the beauty of "compassionate conservative"
If you actually have to add "compassionate" to modify "conservative", it must mean that most conservatives tend to be selfish assholes.

6. yes
and in that someone can be "pro-gay" does that mean that they are conversely "anti-straight"? If so I must be hypocrite numero uno becuase I've been decieving my loving girlfriend all this time. turns out I'm "pro-gay" and unable to maintain a healthy heterosexual realtionship.

2. If I recall
There was a conf. a helluva long time ago where pretty much all candidates but Dennis Kucinich said they were opposed to gay marriage. I recall the event but not the span of time where it was held.

This was before the Eastern courts upheld it and before the gay CIVIL RIGHTS set in, and since the candidates are politicans, I don't doubt that they are whistling diff tunes.

3. Well, you can't know what it means to be "pro-gay"
because you see homosexuals as normal people who are just like everyone else.

Here is where the complication comes in.

RWingers see homosexuality as a sin and as a crime against nature. Therefore, homosexuals are reprehensible to them. If you are "pro-gay", to them it means that you are just as "guilty" as homosexuals are because you support their lifestyle (by not opposing it, and you willingness to coexist with homosexuals).

What I am saying, summed up, is that right wingers are sick motherfucking assholes.

Call me pro-gay, that's fine with me.

Plus, I think that many FReeper males are concerned that if they don't remind everyone constantly how "anti-gay" they are, then someone might think they are gay.

11. If the opposite is anti-gay then I am pro-gay as well
On another note we should be supportive when Freepers come out of their hate filled closets. Give them a hug and tell them it´s ok to be gay.

5. I'm not pro-gay as much as I'm anti-discrimination.
Equal rights for everyone under the law! I don't care who anyone is fucking, a citizen is a citizen and a person is a person.

7. in addition - WTF is the homosexual agenda?
the only "homosexual agenda" I've ever come across is the desire to live in peace with their partners and not be descriminated against becuase of who they choose to love and share their lives with. That sounds like a pretty damn good agenda to me, but then again, maybe according to this freepers I'm just a potsmoking commie/hippie homo-lover.

8. Apparently
According to Robertson and Falwell, from what i surmise, gay sex is so fantastic that hetero men will forget they are attracted to women. Frankly if pat and jerry think their followers (and they themselves) can be so easily swayed...well...

18. Not even apparently
Denis Prager, the conservative radio host and onetime TV talk show host, actually testified to this belief in front of the Senate a few years back! Seemingly, if homosexuality were to be tolerated or "normalized" (marriage, civil rights protections), then married people would abandoned their spouses and children, throw on a rainbow T-shirt and head off to the backroom of the nearest gay bar. Weird.

And such a warped view of heterosexual sex. I mean, do any of the straight people here think heterosexual sex is so mind numbingly boring that given another option they'd jump at the chance? I doubt it. Besides, gay people are just as capable at mind numbingly boring sex as anyone else. And heterosexuals are capable of having spectacular, mind blowing sex - as long as they aren't married to Denis Prager, apparently.

Of course, it also explains their whole "recruitment" phobia. Since it implies - no actually states, that allowing us to speak or even exist will result in otherwise heterosexual people switching teams. Talk about delusional paranoia!

I would, however, like to have sex with Mr. Prager. Really, really bad sex. The kind that makes you fall asleep in the middle of it. The kind that makes you wanna give up sex forever as a boring, pointless waste of time you could have spent better watching paint dry. Maybe he'd get a clue.

Khash.

16. A classic, Cronus - "Show me the gay agenda" button LOL
I've seen the belly of the beast, living through the infamous "Amendment 2" here in Colorado. The fundie haters showed THEIR agenda for mobilizing the troops:

1) Convince people that being gay is a CHOICE.
2) Substitute the words "Special Rights" for "Equal Rights"
3) Propogate the "Gay Agenda" scare...right, they want to recruit your children and heterosexuals.

I moved from Colorado Springs to Denver in 1993 mainly to get FAR away from the Coalition For Family Values crowd, as I feared violence - not by them but from myself.

9. It is kind of a funny phrase
People wouldn't say "pro-black" or "pro-women".

"Pro-equality" would be more accurate.

"Pro-gay" is kinda like "special rights".

12. From all that I can tell
Being "pro gay" means not advocating discrimination, hatred, or violence toward homosexuals for the mere fact that they exist.

13. that's easy

'pro-gay' means that you don't hate gay people as a group and don't even know you're supposed to, let alone why.

Don't forget that the essential prerequisite to being a RWer is to believe in the existence -and presence- of demons. (It's the only easy explanation for their own plight and selfhatred and homoerotic attractions. Problem is that they imagine it to be true for people who have their heads on, uh, straight.) There is no such thing as an Enlightened RWer- the matter/antimatter contact involved resolves in a nuclear explosion....

14. That means you've finally broken out of the Gay Minor League.
You're in the big time. You're a professional gay. It's very competitive. Very demanding.

17. That's what I always think when I hear it!
I am really hoping that one day I can be pro-gay and make the big bucks. Cuz, right now, I'm not getting paid for it at all :( Which I guess makes me "poor-gay".
